I don't think they can afford Staley, Williams, and fit in a new contract for Kittle.

No he said exactly that. He will NOT be playing anything but LT. He's gonna retire guys
Link??
Google it. He said it on a video this off season. Maybe he changes his mind but I highly doubt he moved inside at this pt in his career

I am stunned that Staley is retiring. It's an assumption that he waited to inform the organization, but it certainly seems like the most likely scenario right now. Wow.
Giving up a 3rd next year isn't mortgaging
Dude, if he leaves after next year we almost for sure get a 3rd round comp pick for him. And if he re ups with us we get a franchise left tackle for the next 5 years for a 3rd and a 5th, STEAL

The cap is a myth.

Trent Williams and the 49ers are expected to restructure the last year on his contract, per source. But Williams will report and will play for SF this season.

He's not leaving he's gonna get a fat contract extension

I understand this trade too, I mean at best Staley will play for most likely only one more year.

Fit is ridiculous, knows system, no off season program for rookies, salary should fit, Kyle knows what he is getting

It's that the 49ers have an ELITE GM. WOW LOL. Only John Lynch could smooth things over between Snyder and Shanahan.
I never thought twice about TW coming to the 49ers because of this reason, Snyder having a grudge vs the Shanahans. I can't believe some other team out there couldn't offer more.

why do you think he didnt play last year
he didn't want to play for the Skins anymore. He made that perfectly clear 2 years ago before that season started that he was not gonna play for them. Skins offered him a really good contract and said no. Then the Vikings tried trading for him and he said no to them as well, for whatever reason. But he wants to be here, so I think both sides will make it work. He could've turned down this trade as well, like he has done others.

In trade process, Trent Williams has considered two options w/ one yr/$12.5 million left on deal, I'm told: An extension (which Vikings preferred), or reworking remaining deal w/ incentives to get among highest-paid OTs. Also, don't be surprised if there's a franchise tag block

Like we were saying NY...you just gotta restructure to lower the cap hit this year and extend out to next year(s) where we're loaded with cap space and virtually everyone locked up already.
Yup! Dude you can't be upset with this. He's literally the best LT in football and still only 31 (with a yr off to recover).
Upset??? Hell no. I'm ecstatic. And would be 10 times more ecstatic if Staley stays. Bit even if he leaves, like thl said, that's basically a 31 year old Staley.
Still would need to improve the IOL big time of course.

McGlinchey was awful the last time he took over at guard.
