He is going to want too much. Already said he will test the market. Bye Bye.

Not worth it. Much rather have Juice, J Williams, Hyder, Verrett.

You're nuts, Trent Williams solidified the OL, we need him at LT, he's worth the money, I'd rather have Trent & Juice over Hyder & Verrett.
I'll be extremely disappointed with this FO if they don't resign him.

With the salary cap dropping and a laundry list of FA the money is not there. The OL was a weak point but I would suggest we could survive with an upgrade at C and RG while starting a sevicable LT. A stud LT is not an absolute for a good OL. Spread the dollars out with solid players at all OL positions not just LT.

We will look pretty bad if he leaves in FA. We could have franchised tagged him and kept him (had we not agreed not to prior to him coming here), we could have franchised tagged and traded him (can't now), losing him in FA would only net us a 5th round comp pick, due to him being in the league over 10 years, and NOT being a QB.

I sure hope we trade Jimmy G this off season to help free up funds to keep T. WIlliams locked in for the next 3-4 years. Maybe we need to just offer him a 4 year 72 million dollar deal FULLY GUARANTEED? 18 million AAV, isn't bad, and him locking in the guarantees is what he would like most.

I want Trent to stay more than anything. But to see a line with Quentin Nelson and Trent Williams next to one another. Those two could block a 6 foot wave from crashing down on a beach.

That would honestly be sick. I mean, they could walk to the line...announce to the defense they were running to the left...and STILL get 6+ yards a carry!!!

He will be 33 next year, if I'm not mistaken. He's no spring chicken so his market value won't be as much as when he was in his prime. He will cost a pretty penny to keep, but because of his age and his wish for a super bowl trophy, I think he'll give ShanaLynch a discount. This team isn't that far removed, takentwise, from another super bowl run and I think Trent can see that. The 49ers have some room (as per AB81) and so I think they can and will retain Trent for another year or two.

I don't see how this is even questionable. Yes he needs to come back. Not only because he's a good left tackle and those are hard to come by, but if we get a rookie QB, he will need the protection. We have seen how bad offensive lines are in the league and how difficult it is to build a good one. This team already needs to add three players to the OL. We don't need to add a fourth.

If he hits the market and sounds like he's going to see what's out there it just takes one team to say F it and blow him away. Colts have the 2nd most cap space and just had their LT retire. Not ideal.

I certainly hope we can keep him but I'm definitely worried now.
Lets give Lynch some credit. He basically RENTED a stud LT for a year. If Trent Williams leave via FA the Niners will receive a 3rd round compensatory pick the following year. It is actually not a bad thing.

I might be in the minority, but paying the TOP LT salary in the league in a year when the salary cap shrinks could be counterproductive.

Off topic but Kerry Hyder is not in the top 10 for available DE', so maybe just maybe they will not have to overpay for his services (dare to dream)
No way in hell Trent walks
I think Trent will find out his market value first. Then comeback to the 9ers with a slight discount based on said market value. It seems like he enjoys playing for Shanny so I don't see why he won't give the 9ers a chance to match it.

I heard that the niners would only receive a 5th

I think once he established his market value, he'll come back to ShanaLynch and see if the 49ers will match it. The Colts, if they are as bad as what their cap space indicates, they might consider other positions to invest in besides left tackle. But it's not necessarily the case that Trent will take the highest bid. There may be other considerations like scheme-fit and coaching relations etc...

I think if ShanaLynch really put the effort to retain Trent with a solid bid and are willing to push the cap space to left tackle, it will take a top notch bid by bottom feeding teams to pry him from the 49ers.

If we lose Trent, I think Benton is a good enough coach to get a good replacement via trade or draft. But I'd rather we keep Trent, he's a proven player.
So he turned down a contract extension and wants to test the free agent market.
