How can you consider replacing your best O lineman with a rookie. How does that upgrade the O line. I know they may not be able to sign him and Jimmy but I can't see how Jimmy survives the season with a rookie at that position. It's kind of a catch-22

They might not have a choice but to draft a Tackle if they don't re-sign Williams. What are they going to do - sign a street FA and hope he holds up?

That's why it's a catch-22. They need to protect Jimmy if they sign him but probably can't sign both him and Williams. That would force them to draft a tackle and having a rookie in there isn't the best formula for keeping JG in the lineup. If they don't sign Williams then they have to draft a QB or hope that Rosen can work out. Either way, they end up with a player in a key position without a lot of experience.

Niners have done a poor job in building a roster that lasts. Seems the team has no vision for the long term.

The offense sans the OL looks good for the future, but the DL and secondary needs attention.

So you're saying half the team is good and half needs attention.
Imo if you value him enough to trade for him it should have been a no brainer to sign him to an extension right then and there as well.

I was hoping Colton McKivitz could take over Trents LT role, but Colton's been playing other positions instead.

This is all on williams, not doubt the team wants TW. But it takes two to tango

Are you pointing to things like dee ford? of course i am sure there are a few homers here to give kyle and lynch a pass on everything i guess they just assumed trent would resign whenever we decide its time to tell him to. i think many over value the awesome powers of kyle and lynch. lynch has given some pretty bad contracts to some players on our team in my opinion. oh yes,,,, i understand. all gms do that

that is sort of what they have done for years in regards to our o line.. we like our guys.. we hope they can step up. then you get your quarterbacks hurt. you can not pass protect for s**t when the season begins and then you are stuck.. you would think they would have learned but guess not. cuz we are ALWAYS here talking about pass protection going back to 2011 no matter the qb

Both parties said no to that.
Some of the replies in here.

"The OL is already bad so it's okay if we lose Trent Williams"

Some fans never learn. This has been proven every single year.

some think its actually ok to lose him. for years. fans have blamed the qb , the o line coach. verbs cousin in the mailroom, nolannonsense, sus, grant c etc for the terrible pass protection with our offensive line. sad
