That would be a nice OL. But who is going to play QB at an above average level?

If the Niners had this line I think Jimmy could play well enough. The Niners have an elite running game and top receiver weapons with Aiyuk, Deebo, and Kittle. What Jimmy needs more than anything is a top OL.

Having said this, I would be more than fine taking a QB in the first and Humphrey in the 2nd.

Some of the replies in here.

"The OL is already bad so it's okay if we lose Trent Williams"

Some people have said he didn't play at an elite level this year. I have to wonder what an elite level looks like to those who don't think Trent played at an elite level

He played at an elite level? Really? He got creamed. What games were you watching? They must not have been the same games I was looking at.

The games I watched featured our first and second string quarterbacks getting hammered so hard, both were lost to injury. It was the same story with our first, second and third string running backs.

If those injuries are your example of "elite play," I guess we will agree to disagree.

And your blaming Trent who in 14 games only gave up 4 sacks for the QBs being creamed. In no way am I saying our pass protection was good this year. But Trent is part of the solution to fixing that issue. You don't let him go and then risk having 2 McGlinchey level tackles out there.

McGlinchey had an off year. I think we can agree on that point. Part of it was his fault. Part of it wasn't.

Shanny and Lynch have built this team through the draft and a few low-profile (cheap) free agent finds. They should not abandon this philosophy.

So you're making an excuse for McGlinchey but hands down our best offensive player this year needs to GTFO. I can't

Yes, keep McGlinchey and let some other chump team sign Trent Williams for $20 million. Why is this so hard for anyone to understand?

McGlinchey is a BARGAIN. He's much younger. Health is not an issue. Good linemen can be found in the draft, just as the 49ers found Joe Staley years ago.

Draft the best tackle available to replace TW and use the cap money elsewhere. Why would anyone be opposed to this plan? I don't understand it.

You are seriously underrating having Twill, basically the best LT in the game.

The best LT in the game? Really? Usually, the best LT's "in the game" are in the playoffs. What game is TW playing in this weekend? Go ahead, take your time. I'm waiting...

The fact of the matter is this. The loss of Joe Staley allowed our QB's to get HAMMERED onto IR. And this type of play is acceptable to you? Crushed bones and battered heads is your example of the "best LT in the game?"

I want no part of "your game."

Riiiiight

you are over valuing mc in my opinion

Maybe. But in today's game, where cap hits are just as important as level of play, keeping Mc is a no brainer.

TW wants $20 million. Fine. Let him get it somewhere else. We have ten picks in the upcoming draft. We can find TW's replacement at a much better price.

You make a big ass-umption that you will hit on a TW type left tackle level talent with that 12th pick. No guarantees that will happen. On top of that, it takes a year or two, at least, for even a talented college LT to translate that talent to productivity in the pros. Blubber Paris and Harris Barton weren't all pros from the git-go if you know what I mean.

This.
Trent Williams SHOULD be priority #1 this offseason, over extending Warner, why? Cause Warner is signed for 2021, and will get a new deal later in the Summer, like Kittle did, TW needs to be brought back, even I, as a McGlinchey supporter, can see his issues in pass protection, I'd like to see them keep Trent, maybe extend Laken, McGlinchey is the RT in 2021, you save nothing by cutting him, not sure what value he'd have in a trade. As for C and RG, I liked Brunskill at C, but if a better C is there, go for it, if Richburg is willing to take a massive pay cut, like from $7.85M to $1.075M(The minimum), then let Richburg compete. RG wise, idk, McKivitz needs to be developed, Brunskill isn't really bad. I doubt Kyle drafts a IOL high, not his MO, we should be drafting a EDGE, CB, and another WR in the first 3 rounds IMO, if we can trade up into the 3rd, then get a IOL, but I don't see Kyle spending high picks on IOL. I think he can get the most out of late rd picks/UDFAs/cheap vets, like he does with UDFA RBs, and Cheap RBs. Some positions he values differently, and I'm cool with that, had we had a healthy Jimmy, Kittle, and Deebo/Aiyuk all year, I think we're in the playoffs this weekend, but, it didn't happen. Sucks, but honestly 2020 was always gonna have a asterisk next to it due to COVID and all the opt-outs.
Agreed. They really can't make any other decisions until they decide if they will pay him $90M.

AB, thoughts on TW chance of reducing asking price if 49ers can get Watson ?

Totally agree with your analysis. I will just add that -- the replacements for M.Leflure coaching spot and Demeco's linebacker position should be looked at carefully due to the new roony rule on 3rd round compensatory draft picks for poaching coaches.

I know they intend to re-evaluate the money ball aspects of acquiring injured players, I hope they re-value availability a bit higher than talent ability from here on out. I.e. the Marcus Latimore situation where he knew his knee was shredded, and still wanted his payday and misled the medical staff about his body. I think, to a certain extent, Richburg kind of falls into that similar case.
not worried
Can we afford him?
