Let Trent Williams go, get a 3rd rd compensation pick and save $23 million.
Sign a cheaper vet FA tackle for $8-10 mil and draft a good OT, OG, C

It will be slim pickings on the open market for left tackles and you can bet Trent Williams knows that as well.

Real tempting just to draft a Tackle and use the money saved to sign our FAs.

If Watson demands a trade he could basically choose the team he wants to play for.
The niners would be in the running. The Texans cannot have a disgruntled Quarterback on the team.
A 2021, 2022,2023, first and a pair of thirds would the most the team should do.
Also his contract is reasonable this year
Jimmy's release saves about 23 million and Watson's contract is around 10.5 million this year. Houston eats the bonus.
We would be a playoff contender for years .

I'm in the Dick Vermeil camp here, dude needs a diaper change for being pissy that they didn't consult him to hire someone.
All of that being said, no, i wouldn't give up the picks you mentioned for any QB in the NFL right now not named Mahommes.
He makes too much to hold out. That's not happening. The question is can the new Houston coach whoever that ends up being do enough to repair the damage. If they get Bienemy they might have a chance of keeping him. And that's their play here. Hope this eventually passes thru as Watson just makes too much to sit on principle and force his way out.
I don't think it's a given he's gone yet. It's probable but Houston does have some angles.

We could only get a 5th round comp pick for him cause he's a 10 year vet. And I think we are going to be pretty active in this FA period with how many players we are losing so getting any kind of comp pick is doubtful.

I was taught a football team is built starting with the o-line. It's everything in fact lol
So if we can afford him and the consensus is we can. I say we sign him for 3-5 years. It's nice to not have to worry about a LT and we can draft a guy in later rounds to develop behind him. The rest of the line kinda sucks anyways.

This except now you have the option of free agency to improve your OL as well.

It will be a 5th rounder since Trent is an 11 year vet.
We also played the game of trying to sign more players over one proven player last season, so there's that.

Lol i wish. 3 years 62 mil is more likely
Then edit his position, make him a kicker, and sign him to a lucrative 7 year 20 million dollar contract. There are solutions out there if you are creative enough. Honestly, he is gone and we should look forward to getting a high comp pick for him. Jets, Jaguars, and Dolphins all have a ton of cap room, and a need. Hate to say it, but he gone.
I agree. The moment I heard he turned down a deal and mentioned letting the market set his value I knew he was gone.

We have 1 CB signed next year. And an injury prone QB, and the OL is also not good. Letting TW walkwould be a really dumb move.

If they going to go the route of letting Trent walk, then I hope they make up for it by signing a better than average tackle and center. Do not, do not, do not go into this season with out brittle QB behind some O-line that would give our lines of 2015 and 2016 a run for their money. Seems he's determined to hit the market, so we need to just go ahead and lock everyone else down- Hyder, Verrett, Mosely, and Williams.
