Let him walk then. No OL position is worth that much.
Let's see if you're singing that same tune, when Jimmy is getting abused from his blindside, and then the Webzone will be calling for Kyle and Johns head

David Bakhtiari just did.
And it's a good starting point to get an idea on what it will cost us.
Bakhtiari doesn't actually get 23mil until 2023. Before then it's 20 mil for 2021 and 2022.
2024 it's 27mil but by then most of the guaranteed cash is used up and restructuring is possible or cutting if no longer performing.
We'll do something similar. I'd guess it will cost us 19-20mil on next year's cap even if the contract is 23-24mil a year overall.
Agree. AB is pretty good at this stuff. If he says we can sign trent to a blockbuster deal and *NOT* get into cap difficulty, I agree with him. Also, I'm looking at the numbers myself. If Ford and Richburg both get cut/reduce their salary to league minimum that frees up 30+ million.

You realize that a crap OL = a crap team, correct?
Check my other posts lol. Ncommand is the only other poster who thinks OL is our biggest problem besides me. I'm absolutely all in on making minor updates to our OL to get us over the hump. So yes dropping the ball and making a big downgrade at LT would be a disaster for us. While IOL is the priority the only thing that would hurt us even more is to cheap out an take a step back at LT.
I'm on the keep williams side. We need that left side shored up to make sure we only have to worry about the middle of the line. But with that no OLmen is worth 23mil a year every year. No way. I'm ok with paying him 23mil one year out of his contract cause Paraag can manipulate that to get him the most money when we can afford it. But every year, no. This is OL this isn't QB.
His best chance at getting a SB is on the niners. The teams progressing through the playoffs now don't have a need at LT an also enough money to pay an LT 23mil a year. His choice for next year will
Show us what he wants more. If he wants a SB hel take a couple mil less to stay here an make a run. If he just wants to maximize his money hel sign somehwere like the jets or someone else at the bottom.

Signing TW does not decide whether we have a good OL. He started this year and........our OL sucked.
Harder without TW. I mentioned before we could possibly take that same money and get two quality O-lineman. But that's a far more difficult option.
With that said, to me there's a happy medium between winning + liking the team AND making money. Outside of the other top tier teams that have a chance for a Super Bowl, who don't even have a need at tackle, where does he think he is going to go to get this market value? The only teams in need of a left tackle historically aren't very good at all. In his quote he said elite tackles don't normally hit the open market. Yes Trent, there's a reason for this.

Yeah I don't see how keeping one of the top LTs in the league would make our offensive line better
When the rest are scrubs it doesnt matter who is at LT. Having a stud LT does not write you a ticket to being a top OL unit. I am not suggesting he is not a really good OL. He just wants too much and when our OL lacks quality and depth you have to make tough decisions not to mention the drop in the cap and the long list of FA that we need to sign. Most of the FA on our team are going to want more than they are probably worth. That is the nature of FA. Good teams that are competitive long term are not held random by FA demands.

Letting a great LT walk cause you're worried about other positions that are not as critical is a great way to ruin your offense.
