Trent literally said in January he wants to test the market. He wasn't going to sign anything before today.

Feeling like there's a hard number. $20/per or a bit more is where they might be fixed. I get it too. Every team has to have their limit.
Sooner or later they gotta break the bank a little to keep their own. Especially if his name is Trent Williams.

Not more then the Colts do (they've got $45 million to play with). They could easily afford Trent, and lining him up next to Quinten Nelson would help Wentz big time.
I don't blame Trent for wanting to test free agency, it's his first time being a free agent.
I just hope we can sign him.

I definitely would've kept Buckner over Armstead.

Plan B is Joe Staley coming back.

I realize Trent could very well leave. He's free to sign with any team, but lol at the fear mongering over something you have no control over.

If he was going to come back he would have re-signed already. You don't "test" the market unless you plan on leaving. I'm sure his agent knew well in advance roughly what other teams would be willing to pay.

True but Trent has what 3 - 5 good years left at most? Again it all depends on who they're not willing to lose. If Colts are helping Williams reset the tackle market, I just don't think that's something we can do right now, but that just me.
I sadly agree with you. Ain't s**t the 9ers can do now if other teams get involved which is inevitable. Hey go get Eric Fisher then. Hahaha

Yup. I mean I understood the "Economics" of it, but it was the wrong move. Sometimes with the cap you have to kick the can down the road, especially for your all-pro players.
I feel this way about Trent. We thought $20m.... If it takes $24, just do it. If we lose Trent and then draft a tackle at 12 - its another first rounder wasted.

The silver lining is that we will have enough money to bring Solly Thomas back.
