They will just do it again.

There's some truth to that but it gets worse and worse, at least to how I understand it? Someone correct me if I'm wrong here:

Example

Player A - 4 year deal. 40 mil base salary 40 mil signing bonus.
year 1 base: 10 +10sign bonus = 20mil cap charge
year 2 base: 10 +10sign bonus = 20 mil cap charge
year 3 base: 10 +10sign bonus = 20 mil cap charge
year 4 base: 10 +10sign bonus = 20 mil cap charge

Now Player A with same deal but restructured in year 2 and year 3.
year 1 base: 10 +10sign bonus = 20mil cap charge
year 2 base: 1 +10sign bonus = 11 mil cap charge. 9 mil of base salary turned into signing bonus. 9 mil gets split between the remaining 2 years.
year 3 base: 1 +10sign bonus +4.5 for restructure = 15.5 mil cap charge 9 mil base salary turned into signing bonus
year 4 base: 10 +10 +4.5 for yr 2 restructure + 9 mil for yr 3 restructures= 33.5 mil cap charge

Some teams are just smarter than others.

This is the same Chiefs' that fleeced the 49ers into taking Dee Ford.

$74 Million of that deal will be backloaded. Yep Floyd has to pay the Rams $10 Million for 2021.
The Ford deal makes it possible to go after TW.

Rams are $40m over the cap and just gave a huge deal to Leonard Floyd. The 49ers have zero excuses.

Jed doesn't have permission to spend too much money from mommy and daddy.
What's the penalty if you are over the cap by the deadline? Maybe it's a 1st RD pick and the Rams are like " The joke is on you, we don't have a 1st RD for awhile".

Rams are positioned to beat the s**t out of the NFCW.

All they did was backload the crap out of the contract. If Floyd falls flat or gets injured then it's just another deal that they'll have to eat long term after giving massive contracts to Gurley and Goff.

It does. But it doesn't matter.

If the restructures are done on good players and the cap rises... there is zero price to pay.

Look at the Chiefs and Rams. No penalty.

Yup! As long as you have the right guys signed and you know they're in the plans long-term then restructuring is a non brainer...big deal, you just keep giving them a higher signing bonus and the cap keep going up
