Ultimately it's up to Trent.
Let's see if he really wants to comeback or not.

Papa says #49ers have a 4-$80M on table for @TrentW71 , no other details. Will have to come up to keep 71. Have to be creative, other teams (Indy) have more $ space and need as well.

This isn't a business that is based on loyalty for either side. Trent doesn't owe us anything. He's either going to go to the team that gives him the most money or the one that gives him the best chance to win a ring. We're not close to being the latter, so we better be the former if we want to keep him.
What would make the 2021 roster so much worse than the 2019 roster? Seems like we're close as long as dudes don't drop like flies during the season.....
The defense has had a lot of turnover since 2019, especially on the d-line. That was the unit that really put us over the top. When you don't have an elite franchise QB, it's difficult to be an annual contender. We might still be a playoff caliber team when healthy, but it's difficult to say we're on the same level as a team like KC or TB. With Mahomes, KC clearly gives Trent the best chance to win a SB. It's not guaranteed of course, but they're as close to a sure thing as it comes in the NFL.
A lot of things also had to go right for us to even make the Super Bowl in 2019. We had some really close wins down the stretch to win the division, were relatively healthy by the playoffs, and then got favorable matchups against weak opponents in the divisional and NFC championship.

If thats how he shows his thankfulness, he should leave better now than later.
Wants to be on a contender and forcing teams into cap hell, very wise.
I bet he has not earned any money in his career yet so 20 Million/year is just managing his living costs.

If 20 mil a year just manages his living costs he should strongly consider his lifestyle choices. I mean with that much $$$ coming in his money should be making money not just getting him by year to year

AAV is irrelevant. Guarantees are all that matter.
