His take home would be about $10 million after state and federal taxes. That's still a lot but I have no idea what his expenses are. Does he have more than one mortgage? If so how many and how big ar ethey? Remember that these guys have a limited career and need to build a nest egg to be able to maintain their standard of living.

I know that sounds silly since most of these guys came from very humble homes but once they taste the good life, it's hard to go back to living at a lower standard. Most of them tend to overspend, just like many of us when we have a good job. It feels like the money will never end

Hes not some NFL insider guy thats going after scoops. There is very little reason to not believe himm

Why would SF tell a broadcaster the contract info of one of their biggest FA signings in a while?

He's signing somewhere else and they want it known that they tried.

Yeah, that won't do. Looks like we're not gonna be able to afford him after all. Time to start considering replacements.

Nah, if they want Trent, they will keep Trent. NY85 is correct, it's the guaranteed payments, not the total contract that matters. If the amount is not guaranteed, then you can play all sorts of cap tricks on that -- and it doesn't mean much. Guaranteed payments are stuff teams can't undo and get back because it goes to the player pocket the second he signs on the dotted line.

Make it 4 years, $80m fully guaranteed at signing and maybe he might consider it.

Bingo. This is what I'm getting at. The guy essentially works for the team. You think brass is going to let him leak the current offer?

Yup, a good portion of them file bankruptcy after their career ends.

Papa is obviously a voice fans would trust. So if your SF and you think you are losing Trent, put it out there that you tried to sign him back for "good" money.

Or, someone from Trents camp wants him paid more and is leaking it through Papa.

Well it's information out there that says, maybe Trent will cost more than what Greg Papa is stating was the 49ers initial offer. I think guys like Trent will cost more to keep, its the mid tier Hyder/Ebukam guys that will have a much smaller paycheck this free agency period.

How does a broadcaster get that type of info? SF is Notorious for not leaking anything with this FO.

I don't buy it.

Or add a 5th year. I am not sure other teams would do that which would give the Niners an edge on him.
Comon Trent sign it!!

I don't disagree with what you're saying but TW is eating just fine. If anyone here seriously thinks 20 mil just covers his costs of living per year I have nothing more to say. It's a joke to even think that he's not living very comfortable with that kind of money. Even if CA takes half. Which totally sucks

You think fans wouldn't believe we tried to resign him unless a broadcaster said "here's the offer they made"?
