I think that's it. He knows this is the last one he'll make as a pro and probably doesn't want to have some huge contract number but with 40% in the final year, knowing he won't make that amount. He wants to max out his payday, secure him and his families future for generations, and be able to 100% plan from this point out.

He will go on my hate list if he leaves the Niners in limbo this long, Only to leave and Niners lose out on other key free agents because of it.

Something has to give.
Trading Buckner was part of paying for Kittle/Armstead now.
Paying Williams probably takes money we planned for McGlinchey and we kick him to the curb for a rookie RT instead.
Hitting on LB Dre Greenlaw and trading away Kwon Alexander gives us money for Warner
When Bosa needs to get paid we will be shedding existing contracts (Ford and maybe even Armstead)
If you hit on draft picks it gives you flexibility to pay a star at the same time.
Nice post

When the hell is this guy going to make up his mind?
I have a feeling he's trying to see if someone else jumps in, like the Colts, to max out the bidding war, then will let SF match the highest offer.
In the meantime all of the other FA o-linemen will get signed while we wait for him to decide which will make us even more desperate.
That's my only concern but I doubt we were looking at anyone beyond Linsley in the first wave of IOL. I think Mack is option #1b, but the sudden availability of Rodney Hudson is very intriguing. He's an amazing pass blocker and already knows the WCO.

Gotta hope Shanny and TW have sort of agreement that niners have last at bat with the opportunity to match the best offer he gets. Guessing nobody has gone above our offer yet. All speculation but I think there is mutual respect between shanny and TW for that courtesy.

If Mack and Rodney Hudson get signed before all this crap blows over, I'm gonna be pissed

What did you expect?
I expected him to demand numbers comparable or bigger than what the Packers gave Bakhtiari(4 year, $92,000,000 contract with the Green Bay Packers, including a $30,000,000 signing bonus, $61,500,000 guaranteed).

Plot twist - his plan was never to stay with the Niners.

If he leaves, zero chance of drafting a QB then. He'll just get crumpled.

I think its clear he just wants a chance to choose. He probably just wants a couple offers and have the chance to choose where he goes. Its not that crazy as he's clearly the best LT in the league. Its whatever, the FO can only do what they can do. I'm sure they're doing whatever they can to keep him.

4 yrs, $80M is a very good offer. However, there are two teams who may up that to get TW. One is the Colts...they could really use an experienced LT. If they sign Trent, they'd once again have arguably the best OL in the league. The other team is the Jags. Meyer's sure to draft Lawrence and who better to protect your prize rookie QB than TW. Much as I'd love to see him stay a Niner, it's not the end of the world if they don't. There are some guys in the draft that'd be worthy...first is Slater. He's uber-versatile, but might be 10-15 lbs lighter than you'd expect a starting LT to be. I really like Vera-Tucker from USC. He's another very versatile OL who also played LG for the Trojans, but after Austin Jackson was drafted he filled the LT position very well. Very athletic guy, too. Sewell will be long gone, so it's likely to be Slater or Vera-Tucker to replace Trent.
