True. I wouldn't have even considered Thomas in the dozen IDT's other than spot duty. I think guys like Taylor, Jones, Givens, Blair, etc. and who knows who else we add, already surpassed him. Ha
Niners just picked a T...to play G?

Did Aldon Smith abuse Trent Williams back in the day or was it the other way around?
Aldon whooped Williams a couple times on a MNF game. I remember it very well.

Aldon was my favorite player his first two seasons. Had HOF talent and wasted it

How does a rookie Tackle make us better though NC? Brunskill played really well for us, drafting a RT/RG top 15 is stupid IMO, he isn't Quenton Nelson.

He's not playing T for us. He's playing RG but has the talent to play RT at a very high level. That means you're getting TOP talent at the biggest need on the team. IOL...with the ability to play T too if needed (and on this team with how we file through OL, he'd probably be playing T too).

The goal is to UPGRADE the IOL. Not rely on Brunskill and hope it works out.

We swapped out Staley with Williams. Great move. But the IOL has still not been upgraded. At all.

You may be right, however, given Brunskill's play last season, it wasn't quite the massive risk you claim.

I still believe there was at least the strong possibility the deal was on before the draft...and I may be wrong.

It most certainly was on,...things just had to play out.

Tampa would've been brain dead to not have given more for Trent. Trent must've not been in.

So then we take Wirfs..... then, Tampa sh**'s the bed and takes him back, giving us a 4th and the very next pick.

Kyle clearly said he wanted Aiyuk with the 13th pick but had to back of for what was in the works. Getting Trent was obviously a part of it.

If we had made this trade before,...getting that 4th never happens.

Alot of scenarios are going on,...most of them we never hear about.

But still Upset that we traded away more draft picks rather than players. We're way beyond that, we need to be trading players not picks. And the last thing we should have done after a draft with like a record breaking low amount of picks (4 now!) is trade away 2021 picks. We have no 3rd rounder next year now.
All we have left this year is a 6th an 7th. This draft is over. We came out of the 2020 draft with 2 rookies basically. Can't believe it.

I love that lynch is willing to trade an move around unlike baalke was but he's getting way too fluid an giving up way too many resources that we're gonna need in the future.

What if they don't want our players? Do we just pass on Trent Williams and role with Brunskill?

If staley was retiring, draft an OT. If teams don't want our players trade them away for 7th rd picks or cut them. It's only hurting us an our roster to keep them.

Then who would we have replaced Buckner I'd we didn't take Kinlaw?

Teams might want our players but you were specifically talking about trading them for Trent. Redskins have to want them to make it work. Doesn't matter about other teams .

Washington drafted a T with their pick. We traded a 5th, they used the 4th they already had. The Williams announcement came immediately after. Seems extremely likely the deal was already done and everyone agreed to stay quiet so Washington wouldn't get jumped for an OT. Tells you how much people trust Lynch. Washington could have gotten burned.

Same difference. They waited to ensure there were still T's of interest today before consummating the trade.

Everyone knows Lynch is a man of his word.

I'm assuming this was back in 2011 or 12, Trent was still a young player back then. Since then he's developed into one of the best LTs in the game.

One more time so it is clear,...If Washington, San Fran, or Staley, or Trent had let this out of the bag,...we probably don't get Aiyuk.

This! Over and over and over!

Washington picked an OT in the 4th. Did the Williams announcement come after their pick?

Silence helped everyone involved!!!

You guys keep repeating that statement maybe you could enlighten me as to why. Traded away a 5,7th and a 3 next year. So your saying we couldn't use some other asset to move up to get Aiyuk.

You didn't need the 4th to move up from 31 to 29 ahead of the Dolphins at 30 (the only team Kyle was worried about).

Stupid. They pass on Wirfs, a talented 10 year tackle prospect. If they knew Staley was not coming back there was plenty of defensive tackles in free agency that cost what you're going to pay William's that would've been perfectly fine for the time being. Defensive tackles are a dime a dozen compared to talented offense tackles.

How is it stupid, they just got a 7 time pro bowl LT for peanuts, so what they didn't know for sure on Day 1, they got him, can't people just be happy and not get all pissed off. Plus why draft a rookie LT to protect Jimmy, doubt a rookie would do well on a SB roster, sorry never happening. Plus Wirfs is a RT, not a LT, and MM isn't moving to LT.

Because they knew before the draft and there was no guarantee they'd get Trent Williams and they STILL went 3T.

And this:

Williams-Tomlinson-Richburg-Wirfs-McGlinchey is far more important a need than Armstead-Jones-Taylor-Bosa in a passing league.

Not to mention we have 100 other IDL that can rotate downs.

If Brunskill isn't the guy, Tom Compton is. LOL

Just wondering....is there any way we could ask Joe to backup all OL slots except C? Not at $12 mil but a fraction of that, with the intent not to play him unless an injury. That way he could retire on the pine yet be there in case of injury...and if we were lucky enough, bag him a ring.

Or, if interested, is there a minimal OL coaching job, such as Quality control or something equivalent where he could retire and just consult on OL play? That might get him a ring also.
After all he has given us, that would seem only fair, since he is retiring due to injury. As a backup for injury only...well, that's a bit different.
