I was looking at his contract. Doing a new contract would likely be in the interest of both parties. TW is going to hit the cap for 35m next year and 37m the following year (he's around 10m this year). 2026 is arguably for paper only as hit hits the cap for 8m if he's cut. So give the man a 4 year contract with some guaranteed to make him happy and spread the cap hit a bit so it doesn't hurt the team long term.

I still don't understand why people are not bashing this guy more in comparison with Aiyuk.
Aiyuk is on the last year of his rookie deal, while Trent is under contract for another 3 years. It is a ridiculous to be holding out for this long with that many years on your contract. I say get your ass to to practice or get gone. If we give into this type of stuff, we are going to have are best players holding out every year looking for more money.
Because he has done this quietly instead of making a spectacle of it.

One of the few negatives with this FO is struggling to get multiple big deals done at once. They basically take it one player at a time. I'm actually more worried with Trent than I am BA. I doubt Trent just decided a couple weeks ago to hold out. This had to be an issue for a while now, but that's just my opinion, who knows...

I didn't see it as ever being much of a spectacle. Very similar to many WR holdouts during the last year on their contract in recent memories. There is nothing odd about the Aiyuk holdout. Many WRs have done it. This very season even. What is odd, is a player in Trent Williams who is one of top paid at his position, who has 3 more years on his contract, holding the team ransom once training camp starts, because he knows the team doesn't currently have the tackles on the roster to replace him. So everyone wants to excuse it and worse reward it by giving him what ever he wants.

I don't care how much we have to pay him because without him our season is over before it starts.
In fact I don't give a f**k about Aiyuk but we must fix this with TW asap.

Yes because we have team ownership trying to focus on winning now while not completely mortgaging the future but we have players focused on trying to cash out now fresh off a loss right before Purdy and there's a palpable conflict of interest.
Then we have one dude hellbent on cashing out here on a team that didn't win it all instead of doing in on a bottom feeder. I mean we have some really delusional jaded players whose math ain't mathing

What if TW gets injured in the first game of the season? A true contender cannot be dependent on one player. (QB excluded probably). He's 36 years old, for Chrissaks.
If as it appears the Niners have done a poor job of addressing the OL, they'll either adjust or suffer the consequences.
I don't think that they should do more than make a few face saving adjustments to make it easier for TW to return.
This is getting silly; the Niners need to toughen up.

I understand the he hesitation because we just paid him two offseasons ago and he reset his he market and now for him to want to reset the market again possibly with three years left on his deal is something not even QBs do. What QBs do we see doing this unless it's Rodgers? So why now fresh off a Super Bowl loss would we have players trying to cash out in this locker room?
After Micah next year will it be Bosa? I am all for getting Trent more guaranteed and if we have to reset the market at tackle we go for it as he is the very best but at some point we gotta pay the consequences and we are still waiting on a Super Bowl

They never planned beyond Trent. This was this yr to go get a OT early. You got Trent until you don't but at least there was some insulation there with a good rookie prospect.
instead they drafted a WR that was hurt before he even got here and can't even come to terms with a young stud receiver who's suppose to be the future with Brock.
It's been a s**t offseason

Most QBs that are good consistently restructure their deal which in turns gtds more cash…mahomes been doing this for years. Most QB contracts have more gtd money in it than any other position as well….If you're one of the best QB in football and you have zero gtd $ left, you bet your ass you're gonna ask for more.
Stafford who isn't that dude anymore literally did that this offseason….
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/matthew-stafford-restructured-contract-here-are-the-reported-details-of-the-rams-qbs-revised-deal-for-2024/amp/
only difference is LA got it done before it became some massive storyline.
Trent is no different from that standpoint. He doesn't have any real GTD cash left and still has 3 yrs left of his deal. Tear up the remaining contract and give him a new deal. Toss in some void yrs for cap purposes. Get Trent and BA done and go play f**king football.

I don't understand why it was so easy to redo McCaffrey's contract & not Trent's?
Are they not really similar situations?
