I like to think he'd be willing to play (or at least reasonably negotiate) on the tag. Guess we'll see. Kyle/John just didn't seem to know anything about beyond 2020 based on Maiocco's tweets. I guess a big part of it is he hasn't played since 2018 and we kind of need to see him play first...

Hope it doesn't come back to bite - it may cost us more if he has a good season.

If he leaves after next season, we should get a comp 3Rd pick.

He will be asking for a lot of money and it is unclear to me if we have the cap room to compensate. This is a concern but there is also opportunity to draft a LT in 2021. In hindsight, I think I would have drafted the kid from Iowa vs. Kinlaw, think we are pretty deep at DT. Kinda of surprised we did not have a long term contract in hand.

This is no different when we traded for Jimmy G.

Kyle is going to be so hurt.

PS: This is a joke.

Mr . Diplomacy, Trent Williams.

Holy s**t

Chandler was the one guy who seemed to really give Joe fits. If Trent can neutralize him, that's a huge plus for us against the Cardinals.

Trading for an expensive asset without a contract extension in hand.
Forgot to do this...

lynch does good trades. had joe retired and the answer would have been the kid we drafted late.. it would have been bad here and i would have been second behind nc in my ire
I haven't looked too far back on this thread. Has anyone brought up this deal probably doesn't get made if we resign Defo?

I read Mcvays quote about the trade. He coached Trent Williams too. Whitworth is 37? 38? The Rams had plenty of mid round selections to get this deal done but because of their exorbitant spending, they didn't have the cap room.

You can start spinning scenarios in your head if Staley retired and we had resigned Defo. Do we take a tackle at 31? Trade back and select a tackle in the 2nd round? How do we replace a HOFer at arguably the 2nd or 3rd most important position on the field?

The salary cap is actually a real thing. And in my honest opinion, and I think this rings true for every coach and GM in the league, a future lock for HOF like Trent Williams at LT, even at 31 is far more valuable than a player like Defo at DT.
