Right now we are building short term
i bet we wont be able to resign him next year
but if we win the super bowl it doesnt matter
all in in 2020 !!!
i like it !
best case scenario and realistic one : we dominate in the run game with him and also give jimmy more time in the pocket plus our defense will be almost as dangerous
it could be saints niners in the CG then a rematch vs chiefs or ravens
î hope we have a season in 2020 !!! It will be a great one !

I think it'll be Saints or Bucs vs Niners in the CG. Either way the NFC should run through Levi's again!

Why can't we resign him?

Kind of crazy that we spent such a high pick on McGlinchey, and he's not even looked at as a possible Staley replacement at LT. Williams was option 1, but if we didn't get him, Brunskill was probably option 2.

He was NEVER a replacement for Joe at LT. He's our long-term RT. Moving McG to LT was never in the cards

You friends with Lynch? He hasn't stepped up to being able to. Claiming you knew all along he was never expected to grow into such a role is a farce.

I haven't looked too far back on this thread. Has anyone brought up this deal probably doesn't get made if we resign Defo?

I read Mcvays quote about the trade. He coached Trent Williams too. Whitworth is 37? 38? The Rams had plenty of mid round selections to get this deal done but because of their exorbitant spending, they didn't have the cap room.

You can start spinning scenarios in your head if Staley retired and we had resigned Defo. Do we take a tackle at 31? Trade back and select a tackle in the 2nd round? How do we replace a HOFer at arguably the 2nd or 3rd most important position on the field?

The salary cap is actually a real thing. And in my honest opinion, and I think this rings true for every coach and GM in the league, a future lock for HOF like Trent Williams at LT, even at 31 is far more valuable than a player like Defo at DT.
If we kept Defo we don't draft Kinlaw and probably draft a tackle early.

lol Trent isn't playing anything but LT. Believe that. Joe Staley has already said he will never play anywhere but LT, and he would retire before he'd play RT or be a backup. So this kind of signals his retirement.

People say a lot of things and change their mind when circumstances change. I have gotten pissed off at work at times and said "to hell with this sh&t!, I'm quitting!" Then I show up the next day.haha
I read somewhere that Trent Williams is one of the best run-blocking tackles in the game and definitely better than Staley in that aspect.

Is that true at all? If so I'm extra hyped!

Dude lynch and kyle have stated it from the beginning, kyle could have moved him to LT (when Joe was hurt) shanny said he's our RT

go find someone else to start an argument with I'm not doing that with you this time.

If he leaves after next season, we should get a comp 3Rd pick.

He will be asking for a lot of money and it is unclear to me if we have the cap room to compensate. This is a concern but there is also opportunity to draft a LT in 2021. In hindsight, I think I would have drafted the kid from Iowa vs. Kinlaw, think we are pretty deep at DT. Kinda of surprised we did not have a long term contract in hand.

People keep saying we'd be guaranteed a 3rd round comp pick.

No. We would not. He'll have 10 seasons accumulated. This means at the most we get a 2022 5th round comp pick.

I want this guy for more than one season. Period. None of this "oh he's worth the rental and we'll get an amazing comp pick!" crap. Trading a 3rd for one year of Sanders and getting a very low 2021 comp pick back at best sucks. Keeping Williams around until age 35 would salvage that though since we used the 5th we got back in the Sanders trade to get him.

Sanders wasn't worth WR franchise tag money though. If Williams is even 80% of what we think he is then he'll absolutely be worth LT franchise tag money. I'm hoping that's on the table at least.

Yup you're correct there. I really do think they give him an extension at some pt. It's best for both sides not to get anything done before he plays

They aren't going to state he's been drafted to replace a current player,....they never would. Blanket statements about what a top 10 pick was never drafted to do after Staley's gone when we certainly don't know is horribly misleading. I certainly hope he grows enough to be able to do both positions.

The odd part is thinking Wirf wouldn't be an immediate starting upgrade over Brunskill on talent and draft choice alone. We're trying to UPGRADE the IOL...not get by with hope and faith. The FO needs to learn from its mistakes. Superbowl was case confirmation 101.

how did we get to the super bowl?

Pass rush of AA, Bosa and Ford (some Buck too), scheme mastery, superior run blocking, rushing, clock control and 3rd down conversions.

Why did we lose?

Pass protection as a unit, soft shell defense in key situations, coverage breakdown, not coverting on timely 3rd & 4th downs (pass protection + good plays by their defense).

More like some poor decisions by Jimmy on those last three drives..

And I love Jimmy. But that was on him to seal #6. He didn't come through. Period.

Hope he does next time.

See the bottom...pass blocking efficiency. That's for the whole year. As a unit, outside of Staley, they stink. And the FO once again, did nothing about it.

But we'll just keep blaming Jimmy Garoppolo.

For not coming through on one of those last three drives.

Yes.
THE BIG CATTTTT !!!!
