No. We would not. He'll have 10 seasons accumulated. This means at the most we get a 2022 5th round comp pick.

I want this guy for more than one season. Period. None of this "oh he's worth the rental and we'll get an amazing comp pick!" crap. Trading a 3rd for one year of Sanders and getting a very low 2021 comp pick back at best sucks. Keeping Williams around until age 35 would salvage that though since we used the 5th we got back in the Sanders trade to get him.

Sanders wasn't worth WR franchise tag money though. If Williams is even 80% of what we think he is then he'll absolutely be worth LT franchise tag money. I'm hoping that's on the table at least.

I wasn't aware of that (comp pick would be a 5th). Good to know.
The talk of getting a comp pick back is worst case scenario. I think what's likely to happen is he plays well and gets an extension with the 49ers. Unless, one of the unproven OTs on the roster show they are capable of handling LT at a small fraction of the cost, then that gives the team another option. If Williams shows he's the same TW, and no young OT shows any promise, I think Kyle will shell out the money. He values OTs big time.
If we can afford an extension for Kittle and Williams this move is even more genius.

Get ready for another defensive lineman at EDGE next year in the 1st round lol.

wasn't he injured?

See the bottom...pass blocking efficiency. That's for the whole year. As a unit, outside of Staley, they stink. And the FO once again, did nothing about it.

But we'll just keep blaming Jimmy Garoppolo.

For not coming through on one of those last three drives.

Yes.

Cause / Effect

But he certainly bares responsibility too.

They aren't going to state he's been drafted to replace a current player,....they never would. Blanket statements about what a top 10 pick was never drafted to do after Staley's gone when we certainly don't know is horribly misleading. I certainly hope he grows enough to be able to do both positions.

They never moved him to LT this past yr, but instead let basically two rookies do it. When asked if McG would be the LT they have never said he would be. All we can go off of is what they've said and it's been reported multiple times he's their RT

McG was a better RT in college then LT. He's known as a badass run-blocker yet avg pass-protector. Your best pass-protector should be working the blind side and yes I know RT/LT both deal with great pass rushers now.

Can we afford to pay Williams/Kittle if we cut Kwon/Ford after next season?

CB

I was thinking CB too but if a top EDGE is there I see us going that direction. Our pass rush SUCKED without Ford in and we need to draft someone in that spot.

CB in round 2.

Either way we go EDGE and CB in either order next year. A lot will depend on Ford's health and play as well as Sherman.

I feel like corner would be the priority if that's how it plays out.
I still can't believe we got this guy as our HOF LT replacement. So surreal that is still hits me every time I see this thread.

It's super impressive to be honest. Replacing one potential HoF LT with another who is 4 years younger. I love it! Major props to Lynch

Will have 60 mil next year to spend. Won't need to cut anyone.

Cutting Kwon for 6 mil savings doesn't advance the cause much. Unless he plays poorly he should back.

Ford is dependent on who we can replace him with. Bosa will get franchised undoubtedly by LA so it won't be him.
Silverback..love his nickname

Honestly at this point I wouldn't be at all surprised or disappointed.
