I'm more stoked for this than I was for our draft picks. Great get!!!

Yes. Did you think I asked whether he was still good by ignoring the fact that he sat all of last year out at age 30?

I am stunned that Staley is retiring. It's an assumption that he waited to inform the organization, but it certainly seems like the most likely scenario right now. Wow.

Worse case you still, hAve the franchise tag. If he plaays well I think we will re sign him though.

As for Joe, may I present a 3rd possibility. Maybe he's so willing to do whatever it is to win a Sab that he's okay to play Guard for his final two years. A 49ers OL of Williams-Staley-Richburg-Tomlinson-McGlinchey would be really, really good.
I wondered about that. Not sure Joe has much experience at G, but he thoroughly understands the game.

If this means Joe is going to retire, then I will be really sad. Wonder if he'd be interested in Player/Coach?

How is he 'mortgage future draft picks' with a 3rd rounder next year...

They aren't losing all their 2nd day picks like this year.

Pleeeeease stay, Staley....
This is what I want to know.

With reports out that trent blocked moving to the Vikings, it seems like he actually wanted to come here to SF and reunite with Shanny.

This might just be the skins giving in to Williams' demands and moving on asap.

If that's the case, be prepared to see Williams at his best.

Can he play OG?

You won't get a Trent Williams Type in the 5th or 3rd rounds.

I actually think we would have been stupid not to take Williams after watching our o-line in the super bowl.

we can get those picks back by trading back next year, may get the 5th back this year depending on the Goodwin trade options.

Tackles moving to G isn't unheard of. A lot great former T's moved to G later on in their career. It's less demanding of a position. I have no doubt Joe would be just fine as a G. You need that athletic G anyways in a zone scheme, and Joe would actually a great fit if he would play G for us.
I'm pumped man if staley comes back this is the kind of player that's gets us over the chiefs

Uh no. We are happy... We literally upgraded at left tackle for a 3rd and 5th rounder.

It's that the 49ers have an ELITE GM. WOW LOL. Only John Lynch could smooth things over between Snyder and Shanahan.

This is key. This is a great move for a great player and unlike Sanders, this time they will work on an extension immediately. He's a core player for three next 4-5 years at a crucial T spot and ALREADY knows the system.

Yes, I think he's got another 4-5 years. Although he's an athletic beast, he isn't all about athleticism and strength. Like Staley, his game will age well.
