After those comments there's no way you can say he's only gonna be here for a yr

Gould, has to have his contract option picked up by week 17 this year, or he's a FA, so cutting him doesn't really save much, as he gets a GTD portion of his contract.
I'd much rather give that cash to someone who's gonna play and not waste Dre's cheap rookie yrs.
If they can move Kwon after this yr and use that money for a true starter (or put towards Warner) I'm all for it.
Thanks for the Gould info...I of course don't know half as much as you do about the cap

Just curious why we never had issues with Willis and Bowman? Was it because Willis retired early?

Trent Williams' "real close" relationship with Kyle Shanahan played a big role in him joining the 49ers https://t.co/TUFi4chRvJ pic.twitter.com/hdpQYesjgx

We don't play 3 LBers enough to pay Kwon the cash he's getting...you want Dre to ride the pine? Let's take advantage of that cheap 5th rd contract.
Much rather invest that money elsewhere or at the very least give it to Warner. They can't pay two LBers top money imo. Not with all the other positions that need cash too
If we didn't have greenlaw last year we would have lost a few more games. that 3rd LB was a blessing and still is

But we gotta have backups or we are deaaad. OL...holy cow. DBs...yikes...dL already noted...RBs...glad we had multiples, TEs...thank God for Dwelley and Tololo. LBs couldn't escape the injury issue, and didn't. Can't make the case any better than that.....oh, and we got a guy as QB #2 who can come in and run this O. We are backed up like nobody else i can think of...and still last yr it wasn't enough with Dee, our C, our OTs, our OGs, ,DBs, RBs, WRs all getting dinged. Almost...but not quite. I really like what JL did for the team and backups/rotational players.
Healthy we win last yr.

You can't pay a backup $15M, especially when you have so many good young guys looking to get paid. Plus Kwon seems to always be injured you need reliability and he hasn't been that.
Dre showed he can ball and like I said SF played with a slot DB wayyy more than having 3 LBers on the field. After this season he's gotta go, we need to put that cash elsewhere.

NY, getting rid of Kwon's contract will not be an easy task. Cutting him after 2020 will result in a $10.5 dead cap penalty. And no team is trading for an oft-injured LB with a $16 cap hit (2021 cap hit). This is because the 49ers re-structured Kwon's contract before they realized Greenlaw was damn good.

Originally posted by pasodoc9er:Note i did acknowledge that Kwon was expensive. And no argument, $15 is big money for a guy who plays little. If we have an heir apparent, fine. But 3 LBs on this team, the next to most injured team the last 6 yrs....would be unwise. Hopefully we have that young man in camp. Thl makes the case above re: kwon's contract, however. So expensive yes, but alternative is even moreso...and Thl mentioned trade downside.
