I'll own up to the fact that on draft day I was initially upset about the trade. It wasn't because I thought he was out of shape or past his prime or anything of the sort. I merely disliked the idea of giving up draft capital for next year when we only had a few picks this year.

But I've warmed to the trade since then because we needed an LT and Trent is one of the best out there. I just hope we can pay him next season.
... and you have my respect !!

BUT not liking the trade was actually different than the ones who were spittin at the idea BEFORE the trade happened..

I honestly wanted Trent because Staley has been done for the last 3 years and I kept repeating that.. I also hope that we resign Trent for another 3 years.

I honestly didn't think it was happening, cause everything Lynch threw out there that Staley hadn't told them he was retiring, but he was masterful with the talk, we got Trent for peanuts, Washington, and the NFL didn't know Staley was retiring. I wanted Williams only if Staley was retiring. I loved Staley, but glad we have Trent, he's younger, and yes better than Staley, but will miss Joe big time.

I'm still hoping we can get Joey Bosa - but considering he just signed a new contract and if we *do* get Joey, that's 30 Million X2 (with Nick) APY *and* probably giving some sort of Hershel Walker deal, most everybody would say "NO WAY"

If we didn't get Trent, I'm sure something like moving McGlinchy to left tackle and Colton to right tackle would have been Plan B, or something like that.

Yeah Joey was a pipe dream, also he's locked into LA thru 2025. That ship has sailed...it's fine SF will more than likely have to draft another edge rusher at some point next yr. I just can't see them keeping Ford at this point.

IMO cut Ford & try to move on from Kwon... those two moves save like $19M, give Laken and extension (lowers cap in 2021), and restructure Jimmy G should give SF some breathing room to resign a couple guys.
We gonna see week 1 b/c Chandler Jones always gave Joe major problems

Kwon is a perfect candidate for restructuring. In 2023 and 2024 he is only making abit over $2 Million per season. But 2021 and 2022 he is making over $16 Million. If he has another injured riddled season I would trade him. But if he has a healthy season and performs up to his elite level, then just restructure his contract. He just turned 26 a week ago.
