What games were you watching? McGlinchey wasn't great but he was quite a bit better than Compton, especially as a run blocker. And since the 49ers already picked up his option for next season, he's definitely going to be back.
Actually Compton has been playing very well the last 6 weeks. His run blocking had been very good. Guy has only two penalties all season but has given up 4 sacks.
Yeah Compton looks good. Glinchy was just bad all around and also unreliable. And couldn't keep his even weight under control.
McGlinchey was far better in 2021 than in 2020. The issue is his price to get what he offers verses what Compton offers at his price. McGlinchey is the better lineman (compare their pass protections and even though I'm not married to PFF ranks, compare that as well). MM will be back on the team and should. I am just wondering what the future holds for him longterm if he returns to full health. I am thinking Jaylon Moore can possibly hold down the RT spot, but we will see how the coaches feel after camp. I am hoping beyond hope that we can extend Tomlinson and that Banks unseats Brunskill at starting RG. It leaves MM as the odd man out, which may be a blessing because we need to get some linemen on rookie contracts in the starting lineup.
Tom Compton is a good backup. McKivitz is another. I wonder if they see him as a guy that can backup at both guard and tackle spots. If so, that bodes well for us. Brunksill would be a high quality swing tackle. We would just need one or two other rookies to round out this position group.
