Niners draft Colton McKivitz | OT West Virginia

this guy is ready. I see him making a big jump in 2023.
If he can do well, he's in-line for a nice extension in 2025. OT is his best position...and it's his to lose. Lynch may still draft an OT...in fact, he should, as Trent Williams may not play much longer. Like this signing.

This guy better of improved since the niners cut him. At least if he is a small downgrade at RT vs the inconsistent MM it will be worth it.

Didn't he start vs the Rams this past season and play really good?

He did well enough but I was really hoping for an upgrade in pass pro, I care a lot less about run blocking being as blatant holding is allowed almost every play.

I was hoping we resign Brunskill that way Burford or Brunskill could be our RG and RT. Poe is going to be a stud at the RG position anyway he's already one of the best pulling guards coming out of college in years

I am confident that Colton can do the job. He played surprisingly well when subbing for Trent during the last game of 2021, and whatever deficiencies he may have with his footwork, will be less noticeable on the right side of the line. I'd still look to bring in more competition either way, but I'm optimistic regardless.

2-year extension. They must see something we don't and hopefully he pans out.

If he's almost as good as Banks or Brendel it's a win and it saves us probably 10-12 million per year which will be the difference between his contract and Mike McGlinchey's. That way we can keep 2 players that we would of had to let go or sign a good FA

Agreed. Hope he works out well for us.
Bargain basement starting RT. the guy's footwork has improved a lot. it's his overall strength and hands that will be an issue for him at RT. We shall se how it works out. I think a rookie will beat him out.

yeah this is a good deal. I think at worst he's a swing tackle. I can't imagine that they won't have some competition at RT though.

We can be sure of that. To this point, the limited reps he has had have not been against high-level talent. Of course, the staff has seen him against Bosa, Ebukam, and others in practice, hence the 2-year deal.

For now, I am looking at it as the only "best option." There is no way to keep McGlinchey so McKivitz is the only option. The draft will be interesting.

you beat me to it I was about to post this. we have some really good young linemen ready to step up. this is what happens when they are coached up the right way and get to watch McG, Trent, etc do it.

Banks made a huge improvement, so did Brendel. I am a little skeptical on Colton because he seemed stiff and not as powerful as we thought, kind of like Mike McGlinchey. However if his play is 90% of mike McGlinchey's especially in pass protection I guess we will be OK and like I mentioned before save about 10 to 12 million which is a difference in their contracts. That will be enough to get 1 or 2 FA's in here or resign some of our players

FWIW, in 32 pass snaps, his PFF PP rating was very good. However, teams scout out weaknesses in a hurry and once he begins to play regularly, we will soon know how he will do.

That's still good news. Any upgrade in pass pro is essential, even at the expense of run blocking
