Sounds like we'll have to do some development to make him viable. Kinda what you'd expect this late in the draft.

I don't think you want him playing tackle for too long but realistically he could come in compete to start at RG on Day 1.

We are in trouble on the IOL where Richburg is coming off injuries, Garland is the top IOL backup, and Brunskill is the assumed RG starter but needs more competition. Tom Compton doesn't figure to be that much of a threat.
He said in the KNBR interview that he's played some guard. They ran the outside zone scheme at WV. He called himself 'kind of a prick'. He meant it in a complimentary way.

Damn is he that good of a G? Better than Lanken or Brunskill?

Nobody really has the RG spot locked up right now. Its going to be an open competition, I expect this guy to have his shot as well. He's not some raw project, he started for four years for a program that runs a lot of similar blocking concepts in the run game, he should be fine.

New 49ers OL Colton McKivitz moves well laterally. He doesn't have blazing straight line speed, but he is athletic which is why I think guard makes most sense for him.

I do like the block in space (No. 2 on this reel):https://t.co/zOYTMJ0keX

Man I thought they traded for Cole McDonald when I first seen his name.

Quick assessment on McKivitz:
- Average length for an OT, but great length if playing at OG/C
- Nasty and will play THROUGH the whistle to hit someone
- Not an elite athlete, but will scrap to compete
- Seems to have a good feel for being able to hit moving targets in open space. This is a critical quality to being a successful OL.
In my opinion, somewhat similar player to Justin Skule.

I can't believe they actually had the foresight to have him do a pose in front of the camera before the draft. Strong work ESPN

Awesome! Should be exciting watching him and Brunskill go at it

Apparently he did really well at the Senior Bowl ( practice and game ). Also he switched to RG during the game and Chad Reuter tweeted that this was a natural spot for him.
