Some of you act like everybody needs to make the pro bowl. It's a $4m-$5m ONE YEAR EXTENSION. He was already under contract this year. We do need an actual roster of human beings you know

It changes nothing about the draft. And it changes nothing about FA.

Not a big deal. The big upgrade at tackle was always going to come through the draft. Dude is just insurance.

now, if they don't grab a tackle in the draft, then begin to worry.

4.5m guaranteed. Basically he will be the backup swing tackle beyond this year and that's about it.

This
Yuck. This organization only cares about Halas trophies.
Weak signing
Wow this guy is definitely not worth it. What a waste of cap space.
I don't think people realize how bare the cupboard is across the league for O-line talent. No one, including the 49ers, think McKivitz was "good", but he's solidly average/below average, around the 18th-25th best RT in the league. Obviously they'll look to upgrade, probably through the draft. With this extension, even in the worse case scenario that the draft pick is a bust, they bring back in 2025 a player who was good enough to get to OT in the Super Bowl.

Second place is the best Shanny can do.

People have such an unrealistic view on the offensive line. Its been like that on this board for years.

Correct, McKivitiz will have competition most likely from one of the four draft picks the 49ers have in the Top 100.
Haha.

Save for TW, this organization has invested the bare minimum in the Oline and the results are there for all to see.

Based on reported guaranteed money, he will now be the 25th highest-paid RT in the league. That is a pretty close fit to his performance level.
