I never wanted a 7th round pick to make the roster so badly before as I do with Jennings. I will be sick if Pettis makes the roster over him
Every article about him says he is slow with a 40 time of 4.72. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but a 4.5 time is considered fast, is a quarter of a second in 40 yards really that big of a difference? For a guy that is 6'3" that seems pretty fast to me.
I had to answer my own question and look up rices 40yrd combine time 4.71
Very interested to see this guy play. Can't wait for the season.

I'm never entirely sold on 40 times as the tenths of a second that people view as making a difference are so attributable to sprinting technique, starts and forms. No WR is getting into a sprint start position on the line so for me it's just pointless - it's too dependant on track coaching to be reflective of game speed and situation.
I don't normally care for hype videos, but the song choice/lyrics ("Paid My Dues") mixed with the amount of criticism this guy receives despite balling out is so fitting! I hope he makes it!

Rice ran very crisp routes. The way he comes out of breaks without breaking stride. Also, how a receiver sells a play even if it is a run or if he isn't the first read is very important, the DB doesn't know what to expect. One thing about Rice, Walsh said was that he hardly say him caught from behind. So the thing is, when you put on the pads, how much does it slow you down? Perhaps his 40 time would be the same if he had the pads on. Anybody that was put on the pads knows how if can affect you physically, even if you are a pro.

That's why I never understood why they run the 40 and other drills without the pads, they should make them run with the pads, although some may start trying to cheat by wearing lighter pads that they don't use. Some players may wear more padding for protection in real games.

In the videos, you don't see him separating much, but he does fight for the ball. Even when the DB has his hands on the ball he rips it out. One of them was a TD. The thing about all the niner's receivers is that although they can all run after the catch. Hurd and Jauan compared to Deebo and Aiyuk are like thunder and lightning. The first two may side step you, but will more likely pummel you. While the other two will shake and bake and run by and pass you.

Well every player now gets specialize training before the combine on all the drills that are run there. Some though side track it for pro days because they feel that maybe they can get better times on the field of their choice. Others may find their other drills are not so good so they don't do it.

Good teams will use it to see if the drill matches the film. If it does, great, if not, then we better check the film again. Others, their stocks will rise or at the least raise a few eyebrows. Like Kittle, blocking TE, then runs a 4.52 and the niners went woah, how come they didn't make more use of him in the passing game. So you see that it is the scheme, that when he does get the ball he does catch the ball and not because he has bad hands. Sometimes things are just workout warriors, others they make people go woah like Urlacher. He turns out to be real athlete and player. Others like Hugh Douglass-fools gold.

IIRC too, he got a bad concussion and the HC wanted him to play through it too. Not sure which HC though.

Pretty sure it was the guy before Hoke. I don't see Jennings holding that against Hurd.

Hurd was getting in fights for his "tough downfield blocking" in TC. Just watching Jennings highlights, I think they'll be besties. Maybe add Deebo and we have the Hanson Bros.

Yeah, it'll be fun seeing the killer mentalities of Trent Williams, Deebo, Kittle, Woerner, Juice, Hurd and Jennings on the field. Pancake city.

Yep, a poor mans Boldin. Not to try and sound cliche draft analyst but he looks and acts like he belongs on a football field. It doesn't always look pretty and smooth but gets the job done. Had a couple of big drops against BYU and Florida but also made some nice contested catches in his career.

My guess is initially they would use him for a lot of blocking plays, then throw him in on some play action bootleg plays to get him open and in space and truck a couple of DBs.

This dude is the most interesting seventh-round pick this organization has ever drafted since I've been following the draft. Usually, you get guys with some interesting tools who are probably raw as hell and have no idea how to play or a small school guy who balled out vs bums, but this guy f**king KICKED ASS in the SEC. And when I say kicked ass, he literally beat the s**t out of people. He's one of the most violent football players I've ever watched.

Covid needs gtfoh because 49ers are going to physical beat the brakes off people this year.

This dude should not have been available in the 7th round. It makes sense why Kyle, Lynch and Jed were hyped as hell when they called him to welcome him to the team. This just seems like a complete steal if he can stay out of trouble, but hopefully he's matured and all of that is now way behind him.

I'm also excited to see what plays Kyle can draw up for a WR with his ability to break tackles and throw the ball. The playbook could be wide open using wildcat packages and trick plays as he gets more comfortable in this offense.

I can't remember the last time I was this stoked about a 7th rounder. After seeing the highlights posted in here and the fact that he broke more tackles than anyone in college football I'm confused as to how he lasted that long.

The slide Probably had to do with this:

pettis could not stand up to the better competition last year when deebo and sanders were brought in,,. i expect the same from him this off season. i think he and james will be gone. maybe taylor as well. i believe our new free agent guy will replace james
