pettis could not stand up to the better competition last year when deebo and sanders were brought in,,. i expect the same from him this off season. i think he and james will be gone. maybe taylor as well. i believe our new free agent guy will replace james

We need to try to trade Pettis for a 2021 pick to recoup something for the Williams trade. He's not making this team.

What is your suggestion? He's not going to be cut before camp

Should be cut as soon as possible before camp. Rather have rookies get the reps.

Kyle will scheme him open in the slot. He's not gonna play on the outside.

Well at least we got a big WR. Him and Hurd can battle it out in camp. If they both prove to be very good, that is a good problem to have

And he will do this in the run game

it would be typical he light it up in pre season and then when the bullets start to fly he crawls into his usual kittie position. f**k him

This dude should not have been available in the 7th round. It makes sense why Kyle, Lynch and Jed were hyped as hell when they called him to welcome him to the team. This just seems like a complete steal if he can stay out of trouble, but hopefully he's matured and all of that is now way behind him.

He -- or the Niners -- should engage Shannon Sharpe to occasionally mentor this guy during his first year on the team, make sure his head stays in the right place. Shannon seems to genuinely care about gifted athletes whose lives are ruined by bad decisions, and perhaps he might see a bit of his younger self in Jauan Jennings. Certainly Jauan could have the same role on the Niners as Shannon had with the Broncos, and with some luck, the same career arc.

Few sites had him as a top 70 over all pick

I hate giving up on a young player so early, especially one that showed some real promise in his rookie season, but it really rubbed me the wrong way how he basically shutdown when Kyle challenged him. It's kind of similar to Josh Garnett where you question his toughness and his desire to do big things in this league.

Some guys are just satisfied playing pro sports and getting a check, but playing that sport isn't really their #1 passion. What makes it worse is that when you have a team full of passionate football players, the pretenders stick out like a sore thumb.

All of this is why Dante's roster spot is in jeopardy if his entire mindset doesn't undergo some major changes. What really sucks is this long layoff might make the situation worse because the guys who don't love football will have too much idle time away from the sport and they might enjoy it a little too much. When football does return Pettis is going to have to show that he either wants it or not, there is no middle ground.

My guess is things don't change and Kyle moves on now that he has enough options to comfortably get rid of Pettis without hurting the team. Every time someone like Jennings is out there busting his *ss with high effort plays in practice, Kyle is going to compare it to Pettis, who better find a way to match Jennings competitiveness.

I'm a big Tennessee fan. Jennings is a monster. He's just one of those players who seems get the job done. Most physical WR I've ever watched.

Not saying he is Anquan Boldin, but plays like him. Big, physical WR that beats the DB for the ball.

The thing about Jennings is his strength with the ball. There are countless highlights of him being tackled by 3 players and he just keeps going.

I saw a few LB's that bounced right off him in those highlight packages. Someone mentioned Brandon Marshall, and I get a bit of that vibe.

It really bothers me when I see players that have talent but for whatever reason just don't want to play. People like us fans dreamed all our lives of having the size and ability to play in the NFL and here's a guy that has that and doesn't seem to care. What's even stranger about Pettis is his father was a major league baseball player and a damn good one. Somehow that desire to succeed didn't get passed on to Dante.

Agreed, now that he is a 49er I defend his actions vociferously.

I love the type of physical players the niners have been bringing in the last couple of years. Call me old fashioned but this is just throwback old school football here.
