It's official - from the 49ers website:

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday they have signed RB Salvon Ahmed to a three-year deal.

Ahmed (5-11, 197) joins the 49ers as an undrafted free agent from the University of Washington. He played in 39 games (15 starts) in three seasons with Washington (2017-19) and registered 353 carries for 2,016 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 50 receptions for 331 yards.

As a junior in 2019, he earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors after starting 13 games and rushing for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns on 188 carries. In 2018, he appeared in 14 games (three starts) and had 104 carries for 608 yards and seven touchdowns. As a freshman, he earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors after seeing action in all 13 games and finishing with 61 carries for 388 yards and three touchdowns.

A 21-year-old native of Kirkland, WA, Ahmed attended Juanita (Kirkland, WA) High School and rushed for 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns in just six games as a senior.

Any news on Salvon Ahmed, he is listed as on the roster on every site except the official site and then they didnt announce his signing with the others, did something happen?

Maiocco just said a little earlier today that he's signing but later today.

He must have got to his phone late or something. Good to hear he's signing though.

Still haven't seen anything final yet on Ahmed signing. Hoping he does as he's got potential in this scheme and also to add to the competition at RB. I believe he was the 2nd best player left on Kiper's board at the end of the draft.

Just reported Ahmed signed a 3 year deal.

I'm betting this is Coach Kocurek's version of Lawrence Okoye. Long odds of making the team but at least he played football. Okoye never did play the game.

If Ahmed can be dynamic in the passing game he may make the roster and , Wilson or Coleman could be released or traded.

Did a little research on NFL Draft Profiles...here's a few guys with a chance.

CB DeMarkus Acy (MO). Has the size 6-2-195, decent speed, coverage and toughness. Was All-SEC CB in 2018. Needs to work on recovery speed/skills.

S Jared Mayden ('Bama) Blossomed his Sr season after spot playing earlier. He'll need some coaching up, but could be a dark-horse roster candidate. Review said he's not a 1-deep FS guy, but we have Ward for that.

DT Darrion Daniels (Neb) Not as big as it says in 'Zone UDFA Tracker...he goes 6-3 @ 310-315. Needs coaching up, but is a willing defender who doesn't give up on plays. He'll need to learn good techniques then he might be a pretty good player.

RB Ahmed (WA) Saw him play a couple of times. Can impress with speed/cutting abilities, but consensus seemed to be he leaves a lot of big plays on the field. Can catch the ball and return it.

Good post, Corva... Thanks for the info, man...

Agree!
I'd love it if our RB squad gets younger and more talented - as our OLine and DLine did during this draft. I can see Wilson or Coleman fetching maybe a 6th or 7th round pick. I leave it to the Draft Gurus to figure that out. I'd love it if Mullens can get us a 5th rounder sometime in the future. That 5th pick spot is magic to ShanaLynch.

You really believe an UDFA is going to take the job of an established good rb like Coleman? For that to happen buddy better be 1 hell of a find.

If the 49er's are really doing their job their had better be three or four guys from that group that stick long term. Football is a meat grinder of a spot and if you hope to have a good team you better find some contributors in UDFA. This is especially true at RB/FB, OG, Safety, possession receiver, blocking tight end.

Using 2017 as an example.....

there were more UDFAs playing at least 40-percent of offensive or defensive snaps than any other group except for first round draft picks. But to be fair with the players who were actually drafted, there can be upward of 500 UDFAs flooding the NFL every year where there are only somewhere between 32 and about 40 players drafted each round when including compensatory draft picks.

But even then, there were more 2017 regular contributors from UDFAs (133) than from players drafted in the fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds combined (117 total).

In this group I expect Acy, Hokit, Harrell and Hasty to ultimately be on the roster.

No way Kyle carries two rookie UDFA RBs on the 53, Coleman is a lock, people need to get over it, he's staying and should be, he had 7 TDs, he had a better year than people give him credit. Acy I can see, and Mayden, but none of the other UDFAs should make it unless the vets play real bad. Chase Harrell won't make it over their 6th rd pick Charlie Woerner.

I don't think any player is a lock. Even Jimmy. Now clearly, odds of Rutter beating Jimmy is less than .000001% but again it's never totally zero. As for UDFA's you may be right. Our RB situation is a lot different than it was in 2017 when we had a crop of RB's that were fit for a power oriented run game vs today when pretty much *every* RB we have - to a greater or lesser extent - fit very well with Kyle's run scheme. But having said that, if for some reason Hasty and Ahmed totally blow up the pre-season (if we have one) and Coleman and Wilson totally stink it up, I can see that kind of scenario allowing both Hasty and Ahmed to make the 53. (vs the practice squad)
