Are the Niners better of worse than their Super Bowl team after the draft?

Hmm I still think we're the second best team in the NFC after the Saints. I understand we beat them at their place, but that game could easily have gone the other way. But I think it's pulling hairs.

Saints and Niners are 1a / 1b
Bucs are a big ?
Seahawks are always tough
GB, DAL, PHI, MIN are a step behind
and ARI is arrow up.

Totally agree.

But can we beat the Ravens or Chiefs? Both teams look improved, especially the Ravens...

Yeah, the NFCW and NFC is tough enough and then if you make that, there's a very real change you're playing one of these two. Not easy.
had kyle called a better game. but thats another story

Saints are not better than us and we proved that last year. Their window is all about shut, and ours just opened. As for the Bucs until we see what Brady can do with Evans and Godwin we won't know how good the Bucs are but it does help a little that he does have his security blanket in Gronk with him but he Is a question mark too after sitting for a year.
I will admit Seattle always gives us fits but I know we can beat them, GB has a QB controversy and no weapons, DAL, PHI,and MIN are second tier and ARI as you said is building.
I honestly think in the NFC at least we are the team to beat and I think we have a damn good shot this year with Jimmy having another year under Shannahan to go all the way.

Injuries will always happen but if we are healthier this year I think we have the potential to be better.

McKinnon, Taylor and Hurd will be huge additions to the offense and these guys know the playbook inside out. It's clear Shanahan and Lynch feel they upgraded at RG and I believe Trent Willians at this point will be better than 2019 Staley (love Staley don't get me wrong). Along with development of Deebo and Aiyuk, and Jimmy another year removed from his injury I like where we are offensively.

Defensively we need Kinlaw to come along quickly, Thomas, Taylor and Street to improve. I think the defense will initially be a little "worse" (still top 10) but by the end of the season should be looking real good. Ford and Tartt being healthy is huge for us.

Good post!

I think MIN got a lot better with their draft.
We are probably a little better and definitely younger, but everything will hinge on Kyles play calling in post season games.
What I like about Shanahan and Lynch is they continue to scout and bring in the guys they believe to fit in the system they've put in place. Just getting top talent doesn't always translate to winning. If that were the case, after picking high in the draft every year would mean said team would dominate. But, we continue to see teams like Cleveland and Detroit underperform due to the lack of scheme/coaching they have.

Every year will always be an unknown because we can only project what may happen. We don't have definitive results until after the season has played out. All in all, I feel confident and happy with our regime in place compared to what we had been hard to previously.

Level - with upside by the time playoffs come around.

Look, I love Staley and would never denigrate his career or production or toughness but its just a fact that he was at the end of his storied career and had lost a step (age and injuries). Williams is at least a slight upgrade at this point in their careers.

Sanders was a great pickup last year and a huge contributor in our playoff run but by the end of this upcoming season, I can easily see Aiyuk being a more dynamic weapon. At this point he is more raw for sure but he has more quickness and his YAC is gonna be huge for us this season.

Biggest question is gonna be Buck vs Kinlaw for sure. Buck was a great player for us but he wasn't as consistent as I'd like from an over $20 million per year DT. If Kinlaw is 80% if Buck's production this year its a wash considering the salary cap considerations. My thought on this is the team chose AA over Buck not Kinlaw over Buck. Could have paid Buck and let AA go if they thought the production was that much of a difference and saved the money somewhere else.
Right now, and on paper, this year's fully healthy team is worse than last year's fully healthy team.

The potential is certainly there to be better though. Another year in the system ought to mean a more prolific offense (esp. true re JG). How well can Kinlaw fill what the team lost when Buck went to the Colts? Can the draft picks replace what was lost in Sanders? Is Trent the Trent of old (because if so, and while I love Staley, that would be a significant upgrade)?

Personally, I think the team won't look as good early to mid season, but by the end of the season I think they are firing on all cylinders, and I expect the 49ers to be picking at 32, not 31, in next year's draft.

Agree but I still can't envision Cousins taking them all the way, especially passed SF.

Most feared team to me will always be Seattle until Pete hangs it up and Wilson is 40!
Getting guys back from injury and being one year older will make this a better roster in itself. Remove the ages of uncle sherm and Staley and this is one of the youngest rosters in football. The longest tenured niner now if Ward.... one year older should equal one year better in terms of development.

With the additions. The O-line is better off, Williams > 2019 Staley and the potential replacements for Person dont have to do too much to be an upgrade. The rookies we depended on last year have another year of development under their belts.

Draftwise, it was the replacement draft. Aiyuk and Kinlaw arent gonna come in and be instant upgrades. But they do fit this system and have more athletic talent than the guys they replaced. The rest is kind of a wash, blocking TE for blocking TE, O-line depth and a potential stud in Jennings but would he be active over someone like Bourne if everyone is healthy? Probably not.

That said they got younger and cheaper. They have young guys who will improve.

SF was one of the most injured teams last yr as well.

No we weren't. That was the healthiest I've ever remembered our team being throughout the season.
For 2020, I'll say a little worse. Losing proven stars in Staley, Sanders and Buckner is going to hurt. Sherman is a year older and you are counting on a lot of guys returning from injury.

Past 2020, I'll say better. WR core overall should improve greatly with experience. The lineup is young and solid throughout. Salary cap should allow resigning of most key players next year, with the secondary as the only area where they might have issues. This is a team that should be in the playoff mix for the next 5 years or so.
honestly, we got younger as well as expended players who did not contribute and replaced them. I think the team got better on offense. defense we'll see. still worried about how susceptible they were to the run
I think we stayed the same. Losing buckner is the biggest lost but I think we upgraded at LT(still love you lots Staley but you regressed ) we definitely got younger though.
