If a free agent we signed doesn't make the final squad, do they still count against when it comes to getting extra picks the next year?

A big thing that I haven't seen talked about a ton is the fact that it looks like players will be missing a lot of practice and time at the team facility. This is crucial for most rookies to learn the system. Luckily for us only 2 of our picks will be "starters" and 1 is a DL which we have a simple scheme to learn. Only player is Aiyuk who will undoubtedly struggle early with less practice time and the complexity of Kyles scheme. This gives us an advantage vs teams who NEED their draft picks to be firing on all cylinders early in order to compete

Great article, thanks. That clears up some things (though not everything).
The 2-times "free" limit of PS players being assigned as the 54th/55th roster player within a season is a big one:
"A team may only elevate a Practice Squad player for a "maximum combination of two regular-season or postseason games in the same League Year." If a team wants to elevate a player for the third time, then we go back to the system that was outlined under the previous CBA."
Seriously. And here's more on it.
Nick has now put a copy of the current CBA on OTC https://t.co/H1aIXnBOaT

Latest thought:
QB- (2) Garoppolo, Mullens
RB- (5) Coleman, Mostert, McKinnon, Wilson, Ahmed
FB- (1) Juszczyk
WR- (7) Deebo, Bourne, Aiyuk, Taylor, Hurd, Jennings, Benjamin
TE- (3) Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner
OL- (10) Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McGlinchey, McKivitz, Garland, S.Coleman, Skule, Compton
DL- (9) Bosa, Kinlaw, Jones, Armstead, Ford,Thomas, Taylor, Hyder, Givens
LB- (5) Warner, Greenlaw, Alexander, Al-Shaair, Walker
CB- (6) Sherman, Moseley, Witherspoon, Verrett, Williams, Reed
S - (4) Ward, Tartt, Harris, Moore
K- (1) Gould
P- (1) Wishnowsky
LS- (1) Nelson
We will keep 7 WR's until the final 6 has been established
Blair starts out on IR
Pettis will be exposed early in camp and will be gone. Too many Dogs vying for his roster spot.
Shana-Lynch will have issues trying to keep both Ahmed and Hasty unless McKinnon gets injured again
I think McKinnon balls out this year. He is hungry.
Would love to have Verrett be Comeback Player of the year, if not, Acy or Harris makes the 53
McKivitz would be back-up guard which would make Compton unnecessary if OTA's weren't cancelled, so Compton is still around
This 53 (55) will change often this season

Blair tore his ACL before Taylor did his late in the season. Blair should be ready first, worst case they both start on IR designated to return.

I agree mostly with your prediction but I don't think John Lynch signed Benjamin strictly because MG was "expendable." Well the team signed Benjamin but I think they took a flyer on him cuz his skillset and speed are similar but he's also a valuable ST player which Goodwin isn't. Just a coincidence he's a very comparable receiver. Where did Lynch ever say that's why they signed Benjamin? I heard most of his media interviews in the last month and I don't remember that, maybe I missed it somehow. Are you sure that wasn't something misinterpreted about what he said on signing Benjamin?
Anyways, Pettis could still make the final roster over TB. That's not beyond unreasonable. Also Jet could still make it for RB over Hasty or "X" undrafted rookie back. Just cuz it seems to consistently happen under Shanalynch doesn't mean a UDFA back makes the 53 every single year. I wouldn't assume Shon Coleman doesn't make it over say, McIvitz who they could try and stash on PS.

Robbie Gould is the 49ers' elder statesmen but Joe Staley had the longest continuous tenure with the team? Who now has the longest run?

I tried to find room for Tom Compton, but with my 53, I don't see 10 OL being a thing, not when we have injuries on the DL, so Darrion Daniels gets the nod over Compton as DJ Jones's backup.
5 inactives would be RB Wilson, OL Skule, DT Street, CB Harris, the 5th would be between a WR or a DL.

AB, isn't McKinnon way lower now?
