Lynch has done this over the years with borderline talent, and then lots of times these players never make the roster, yet we're shelling out tons of money for them not to play. In this case, sure we needed guard help, but we still had the draft ahead of us to help address that need. Compton couldn't have been a high priority FA, thus he probably still would have been there after the draft if we needed him, which in this case, we don't. So pretty much 700K thrown away for no reason.
From what Compton said he made the choice between the 49ers and re-signing with the Jets, so I doubt he would have been there after the draft.

- NFL Pick 'em
QB: Garoppolo, Mullens
RB: Mostert, Coleman, McKinnon, Wilson, Juszczyk
WR: Samuel, Aiyuk, Bourne, Pettis, Hurd, Taylor, Jennings
TE: Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner
OL: Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McGlinchey, Garland, McKivitz, Coleman, Skule
DL: Bosa, Kinlaw, Jones, Armstead, Ford, Thomas, Blair, Street, Moore
LB: Alexander, Warner, Greenlaw, Walker, Al-Shaair, Nzeocha
DB: Sherman, Moseley, Witherspoon, Verrett, Reed, Williams, Ward, Tartt, Moore
ST: Gould, Wishnowsky, Nelson
I really hope they trade Beathard, even if it's for a 7th next year. The only issue with that is I'm sure Mullens will be gone next year for a chance to start, so maybe they trade him before he walks. Could we trade him for another developmental QB?
I think Pettis stays and we see a change from him. It was hard cutting James and Benjamin but Taylor always looked pretty good as a returner I like what DJ Reed can do there too. Ideally, they let Pettis do it in preseason too.
Hard year to predict this.

Not bad, but 9 DBs seems light IMO, but that's me. I think Blair and J.Taylor will start on PUP after tearing their ACLs late in the season, Blair has the best shot to make the 53 since he tore it in November, but Taylor tore his with like 3 weeks left in practice.
I agree I think Pettis stays and shows up.
Mullens isnt a UFA till 2022, he'll get tendered at the 1st or 2nd rd level, I think the team tries to keep him on a multi yr deal next year.

AB, I respect your opinion and even Paraag uses your cap numbers. But, I strongly disagree about Pettis. Due is on twitter right now worrying about SLR lenses. Kittle bought a robo-QB. Juice is carrying people through the snow on snow tires. I think you have seen the pics of Kwon and Bourne and how F***ing ripped they are.
He grew up in privilege with his dad being a great baseball player, and now a coach. He just doesn't have the fire or the desire. From what I have seen, anyway. I don't care if he is gay or not, that's none of my business. I guarantee you that Jerry and TO never were thinking about photography in the offseason. I include TO because he learned Jerry's work ethic. Even JJ Stokes was working hard. He had a few good years, just not enough to justify the trade which netted Ray Lewis to the fledgling Baltimore franchise. I guarantee you that Jerry would be running the Edgewwod hills right now. He'd be at least 6 feet away from Roger Craig of course. I guarantee you that there are players on this time "running the hills" so to speak where they are.
From Pettis we have seen "Cat Star Wars" videos and SLR Camera requests.

Yeah that's a good point about Taylor. I'll replace him with the undrafted safety from Alabama.
Good choice, Mayden is ultra versatile, can play SS, FS, and CB. Also I think Darrion Daniels, the big NT from Nebraska who got $105k GTD could make the 53.

Appreciate the love, I'm just a Pettis fan, hoping he shows something, even if it leads to a trade, I just have a hard time seeing Shanahan and Lynch dumping a 2nd rd pick after 1 bad year, but who knows.

Latest article is on NN,
https://www.ninersnation.com/2020/5/18/21261779/a-look-at-what-could-happen-to-the-49ers-2021-salary-cap-if-no-fans-are-permitted-in-stadiums
Just a peek into the future, key FAs coming up.
After 2020
QB Nick Mullens RFA Likely 1st or 2nd rd tender, I'd easily pay him $5M a yr to be the #2 QB
RB Tevin Coleman UFA Likely replaced, but KS loves Tevin, so I can see the team bringing him back on a cheap 2-3 yr deal
FB Juice UFA Not going anywhere, well worth $5.25M a year again
WR Kendrick Bourne UFA I initially didn't like him in 2019, but he grew on me, and now love Bourne, need to keep him $4M a yr should do it
TE George Kittle UFA Not going anywhere, $14M a yr is fair, I'd go as high as $16M a yr like McCaffrey's deal
LT Trent Williams UFA Not going anywhere, $22M a yr is fair for the best LT IMO, plus they'll tag him at worst
RG Daniel Brunskill ERFA Tender at $895K
NT D.J. Jones UFA Bring him back, he's a rare specimen, speed and power, $5M a yr should do it.
CB Richard Sherman UFA Bring him back, hasn't lost a step, $10M a yr
CB K'Waun Williams UFA One of the best Slot CBs in the NFL, $7M a yr
CB Emmanuel Moseley ERFA $895K tender
SS Jaquiski Tartt UFA Might lose him, but I'd go Ward's APY of $9.5M to keep Ward/Tartt combo together
After 2021
RB Raheem Mostert UFA Needs to be extended, but bring back, $4M a yr, I doubt the team spends big money on any RB after the failed Jerick McKinnon signing
LG Laken Tomlinson UFA Bring back at $5.25M a yr again, been consistent
RT Mike McGlinchey UFA, but will get his 5th yr option picked up, likely in the $14M a yr range
NT Jullian Taylor UFA bring back on a cheap $3M a yr deal for 4-5 years, good 1-2 punch at NT with him and Jones
MLB Fred Warner UFA If need be tag him, $14M a yr should do it
FS Tarvarius Moore UFA Re-sign at a cheap $3M a yr for 3-4 yrs to replace Ward eventually
After 2022 is interesting
QB Garoppolo is a UFA, must re-sign, $28.5M at least APY, maybe $30M, you know it'll be team friendly
WR Deebo UFA $8M a yr for sure
C Richburg is a UFA, if still playing at a high level, and improves, keep him at same rate or slight increase depending on cap
DE Bosa is a UFA but 5th yr option will be picked up, $20M+ a yr for sure
WLB Kwon is a UFA, if still playing well, bring back on similar contract
SLB Greenlaw is a UFA bring back for sure, might need to choose between him and Kwon, hopefully by 2023 offseason the cap is really really high so we don't have too.
FS Ward, I'd like to keep if he plays well, but Moore is capable by then IMO
P Wishnowsky, cheap $1.5M a yr 4yr deal
LS Nelson, cheap $2M a yr deal on another 4yr deal
Anything beyond 2023 is way too far ahead, we're talking Kinlaw, Aiyuk, AA, Dee Ford(Likely gone by then with new younger replacement), and rest of 2020 picks.

Just hoping he shows something - dude has a lot of talent but all cat and no dog in him.

Same here, I'm a Dog person, have 3, love Cats though, but allergic to them, can't have them, would love one though.
Anyway, hoping Dante shows something, nice to see him with the other WRs running routes for Jimmy G.
