The team got worse with losing proven players like Buckner and Sanders. Also we were lucky last year with injuries and usually doesn't happen too often.
Huh? Lucky with injuries? Really? The Niners were decimated by injuries last year...
More specifically, one could make a very strong case that missing DJ Jones, Blair, and Westburg cost them the Super Bowl!

Injuries (or lack thereof) always play a huge part in a team's W-L record....
For example, had the NIners had Sanders, Blair, and Staley healthy, they likely would have beaten Seattle at home....and I don't think it would have all that close.
I would say this....If the Niners have some of their great players miss significant time, they will likely be in the 9-11 win area.
...but, if they can avoid sustaining any really serious injuries to their top players, they are a 12-14 win team.
Feels great, baby!

We had what, 17- 18 on IR last yr...plus we had Staley out for 6-8 games, Kittle missed some games, richburg was injured , played and was out for end of yr, McG went down for some games, and we played musical chairs at RG for injury. WRs were hurt at times, RBs took turns wiht injury,...and in the SB, Dee dressed out but couldnt'play, Blair was gone, and DJ was gone...by rights, we had no business winning 13 games.
So what happened. Well, GM John upgraded all subs and rotational players so that by season's end, virtually every guy on the roster had significant playing time. That only strengthens our case for having a better yr this yr, altho with a 6 yr track record of losing the most players to games, (we ended up #31 for the 6 yr period and #27 last yr). That is putrid, it stinks, but it sure as heck is recurrent.
Just guessing but the fact we HAD to play every guy on the roster just HAS to help us this yr. John's and kyle's Answer to the injuries was to just get better subs and rotation guys and he did. THAT is where that 13 Ws came from. Because no way someone could say we didn't have injuries. We had a boatload of them.
Fascinating, however, that because of Lynch's improving the subs/rotational guys, we had massive injuries and still damn near won it all. With Richburg alone, we win the SB. Same for Dee had he been able to lay. And put DJ Jones in there also , All 3 of those guys not being able to play in SB, was the difference in that game.
I love/loved Buck, as he was one of my favorites. But after watching over 2 hrs of Kinlaw's tapes, i won't be terribly surprised if we don't end even better this yr
Our ultimate record will be very dependent on two guys playing. First is Riichburg, and 2nd is Dee Ford. If those two guys can stay even moderately healthy, SB, lookout.

Just cause we did last year doesn't mean it's an annual occurrence. Get that horses**t out of here. Also Goodwin is now an Eagle.
Opps, my bad, goodwin is an eagle now.

Every team is going to have injuries. Not just us. And it works both ways. Didn't we play the Rams without an injured Todd Gurley? We will play some teams with a depleted rosters too, and we will win those games. It all comes down to who has the better back ups, and ShanaLynch has been great at finding players in the later rounds or even undrafted to help the team out. Rotating RBs like the 3 that we have is also genius. Other teams rely on a featured RB stud, but if that guy goes down to injury, they are screwed. By Week 6, we are not going to meet an opponent with a clean Injury Report. But I put our backups above almost every other team's backups. Even a no name QB like Mullens backing up JG does not worry me.

Week 1 might be played in an empty stadium. No Card fans, minimizes home field advantage for them. WE should win.

OP, two things:
1) Goodwin is no longer a Niner
2) No way we go 13-3 and the Seahawks have our # like that.
Again guys, more likely that we drop 1 or 2 games against "inferior" competition, and take down the Saints and Seahawks as needed.
