Agree. But I also like the fact that they have been really staying away from some problem personalities. Jennings being one of the few that they have decided to take a chance on. Solomon, as much as most of us are disappointed, is still a decently productive member of the club vs Aldon and Reuben. The best ability, as they say, is availability.

How personable was he when he got himself kicked out of the combine. That should have been the biggest red flag right there.

As long as we are able to keep Saleh, I really don't know if we need to draft a LB in the first round level talent like Foster anymore. The Seadderall SeaChickens drafted LB Brooks in the first round, but Fred Warner, Dre, Azeez - these guys produced last year and if I'd go back and re-draft Fred, Drey and Azeez - I think the lowest I would go with those three would be picking Azeez in the 3rd round (Azeez was undrafted, I think). I think Fred and Dre have become first round level talent, in my opinion, upon re-draft. Azeez, I think, is a very promising LB and the way he played last year - he should have been drafted.

People tend to forget that we weren't supposed to be in the SB last season, not even close. Finishing 8-8 would've been considered a positive. Look at the great teams in NFL history, Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, and others I can't think of, they lost the SB their first try and came back strong. Even the Chiefs lost the year before to the Pats. The best is yet to come.

I think Kyle panicked a little bit in the super bowl. Rookie super bowl coach mistake.
A bit of over-compensation from the ATL SB? --Growing pains.

Looking back, I always thought Foster was very "slow" so to speak and Pettis & Williams certainly had a ton of pre warning signs.
The good news is they seem to learn and go opposite extremes. Breida and Mostert get legit chances to earn spots (over a 3rd rounder), Sanders, Hurd, Deebo, etc. DOGS are brought in and they went out and spent big on their mistake in Foster not planning out...hell, Kinlaw for the Solomon Thomas mistake too.
Why are you lumping in Pettis? You clearly don't understand the OP's point then.
Pettis isn't a distraction nor does he have off the field issues.

It's a huge reason players from other teams want to play in SF... of the more recent was Tom Compton, versatile OL signed in FA. For sure, the lure of Shanahan was there, too, but the word's out around the NFL the Niners have one of the best locker rooms in the league. Well done, braintrust.

Totally agree. That's one thing Moneyball can't evaluate - it's the camraderie and the recruitment potential of a team that is culturally one of the best locker rooms in the league. Tough to quantify it, but it shows up in the ability to get good players to play for you. (Trent Williams)

Regarding ShanaLynch and their mistakes. I notice they do something that not many of our past coaches have done. when They see a player struggling during a game, they have no issues with pulling him and putting another player in. Even if that player started multiple games before that. I have seen them do it in the middle of a half or even within a quarter. They don't necessarily reserve their personnel changes for the half time, they make the change in the middle of the game if they have to. They don't care about players pouting about getting replaced nor do they have any problems with admitting a mistake by starting the wrong players.

I still disagree with the premise of this thread, and my comment on the last page was ignored.
How does anyone know that Lynch/Kyle learned from their mistake? Was there a top prospect that had character concerns that we passed on for another player? Because unless there are indisputable facts that this exact scenario played out, no one has any idea if they learned from past actions. Silly thread.

LOL...first line:
If one learned from their mistakes they grow...
Safe to say they learned from the Pettis pick.
