Damn got lucky on that Rice fumble

In today's game that would likely have been reversed after review. In the 1982 championship game against Dallas, the game saving tackle by would have been a horse collar tackle. !5 yards and Dallas would have the ball in game winning FG position. The dynasty would have had to wait. It just shows why it's hard to compare eras. Two rule changes that could have changed history to some extent.

and we got away with a penalty at the end on the missed field goal of the crazy come from behind win over the giants with garcia and streets leading the way

And in Super Bowl 29 the team got away with the murder of the Chargers.
I have this theory about this game. This victory, while thoroughly enjoyable, destroyed the 49ers franchise for a long time. If the Packers had won, mooch gets fired and Garrison Hearst does not get seriously injured the following week. Holmgren gets hired and takes over the niners.

Instead, the niners win, and lose the following week, setting in motion mediocrity for years to come.
The Catch III was when Smelter grabbed his first and only career catch from Kap.

This is true.

Unless, he refs would have dusted off some hidden rule like the tuck rule or completely botched it like the Fail Mary

At worst wouldn't it have been offsetting penalty because the Giants had illegal players down field.

I remember when they drafted him I was like who? And they keep talking about his hands. They literally drafted him because his hands were big. Fck baalke the most inept gm bozo that ever cursed the niners.

There was a series called "NFL's greatest games" where they used nfl films footage spliced in with interviews from players involved in the game. At the end of the the episode for this game, they briefly touch on that.

You are 100% correct, though. The domino effect was devastating. The game serves as a clear end point for the 49ers as they had been known for two decades.

I dont think holmgren does well here. A big part of the 49ers "mediocrity" in the 2000's is a lack of talent. Unless Eddie D gives Holmgren unilateral power, i don't see him succeeding in SF. And I have a hard time seeing Eddie D giving Holmgren such power. And I don't think Eddie D fires Mooch after one season but I could be wrong.

Not really. We were sentenced to several years of hard labor after that win.
I was 6 years old sitting in the stands.

Lucky enough to see both the catch 2 and 3.

I wonder if anyone here has seen all three.
