The 49ers have hired former Jaguars assistant LB coach Mike Rutenberg as a pass game specialist. He previously worked with DC Robert Saleh in Jacksonville and should help fill the void created by Joe Woods' departure.

This. Any addition of football nerd on this team's coaching staff is welcome. It seems like we're one of the very few teams in the NFL that develops coherency with a bunch of football minds. Woods was mostly involved with teaching player technique, not scheme. So Woods was probably mainly watching film of the 49ers own DBs and refining technique. Tony Oden is now on board as DB coach, I assume Oden will be mainly teaching player technique.
I wonder how much Woods contributed as a passing game specialist. Is this just for game plans or also in-game?

Seems like a big downgrade. Going from someone with tons of experience to someone with very little.

Hopefully him and Kocureck can compete for the DC position if Saleh leaves.
