Seems like a big mistake to tie ourselves to Dee Ford. His cap hit is just way too big to withstand for such an injury prone player who's not getting any younger.

I would be shocked if this was done for a Trent Williams extension. Seems like too much risk - surely there could be a way to get an extension done without needing to clear cap space for this season

Dudes one of the best speed rushers in the game and it compliments Bosa on the other side extremely well.
Antonio Brown .... I kid

I'm not gonna go as far and say we are f**ked at cb, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm alil concerned by not having Woods anymore. His impact last yr might have been the most important that was least talked about, I just hope they don't take a step back with the new DB coach that im drawing a blank on

Agree -- I'm a bit concerned myself, too --- however, our GM could probably step in and coach the defensive backfield himself if he was needed to. In other words, with Kyle and John, they should know their DB schemes and probably grilled Ogden and made sure he was competent in implementing them before they hired him. At least I hope so.

We are lucky to have such a stacked team with little weaknesses, besides injuries, DB, and inside oline are my only concerns, i like your optimism, figures crossed

And if he can't stay on the field, what's the point? He takes up over 20 million in cap. We just traded Buckner and let Sanders leave in FA because we had no cap space.

Fred Warner, Tartt, Williams, Tomlinson, McGlinchey, etc. Those are all guys that are going to want to be paid.

we definetly can't replace him with someone already on the team. We should try to keep Ford as much as we can, untill it's just impossible to keep him. i don't think we are at that point yet.

But we could've kept Ford this season without clearing cap space.

But if this is to sign Clowney, then I won't be mad at all.

Titans and Saints are in the running for Clowney, 49ers are nowhere in the mix.

A pass rusher who's also ridiculously good against the run and can pretty much play any spot on the defensive line? He can play the edge on base downs.

The real key here though is that when we let him walk in FA, we are awarded a comp pick. The real downside is that we're sort of crowded already with talent on the D-line.

I wouldn't worry too much about Tony Oden (new db coach) he's been coaching in the league regularly since 2004. Same year Woods entered the league. Coaches don't stick that long if their not solid at what they do.

I disagree about Ford, he's the perfect compliment to Bosa and Armstead even if its only 300-500 snaps a yr, still worth it

I agree the money saved isn't for Trent, doesn't make sense to sign him now, let him play the year out and make sure he's still the same player. Worry about that later, I think we are going for someone specific, who? Don't know, stay tuned

Not saying it's going to happen, it was just a hypothetical that would be worth the cap ramifications down the line.

You're basing that on media reports. During this regime, when's the last time a big 49ers move was leaked to the media?

If it's to trade for an IOL, I also won't be mad.

That we know of right now.
