My sources say this is a three team trade sending Jimmy G to Indy and Nick Bosa to NYJ in exchange for DeFo Buckner and Quinnen Williams, salary cap updates coming soon.....

Why so many quick to ship out spoon when we're a Sherm or mosely injury away not even counting Verrett since he's always hurt playing freakin dontae Johnson? You keep spoon unless an overpayment. You ship him out when we have others signed and drafted

Even though Witherspoon is so inconsistent he's not bad as a back up so I'm glad we are keeping him. Especially since the Niners have been bitten by the injury bug the last six years. If we do trade for a center I will be so happy.
I'm really hard right now by the way, I hope this isn't a blue balls situation

We "might" have a trade to announce. This person could tweet that about any team in the league and it would be just as true

I disagree about Ford, he's the perfect compliment to Bosa and Armstead even if its only 300-500 snaps a yr, still worth it
3-500 snaps is Ford's ceiling. And that ceiling isn't getting any higher after this season.
Dee Ford has the team's 2nd highest cap number after Jimmy. I think Ford is a good, useful player and would love for him to be on the team, but at a lower cap number. This is also NOT a situation where we have so much cap space that we weren't going to use it anyways. There are a lot of good, young players who are going to want raises in the coming seasons. Ford's cap hit represents a major opportunity cost
Let's wait and see how this season goes, by all reports the surgery he had in the offseason has him looking like 2018 Ford and if he reaches his ceiling in snaps then to me he's worth every penny, big difference when he's playing, opens everything up for the Dline. If he has a similar year like last yr than I can see them reworking his contract
Dee was a risk but we were in desperate need of ER, and he Became available. The fact he played just 1/4 of the snaps last yr (give or take a few), is one thing. But when he played those snaps is another. Had he played very little thruout the yr. (yes, less Snaps than he actually played last yr), and played more snaps into playoffs, but specifically in SB, we probably have our 6th Lombardi in the case. Dee gave it a valiant effort and tried to be ready for SB, but in the end, his legs just wouldn't take it. (Hammy, knees, whatever). Hence no Dee for SB and that was arguably the difference in the game. Had he been there harassing Mahomes like he did other QBs earlier in season, i fully believe we win. But not only could Dee not go, but neither could DJ Jones and Blair both on IR and didn't make SB.
So if Dee can play 1/4 of snaps and they are all in the postseason where needed but definitely in SB, then hey, i love it. But to have no Dee in SB,? That really hurt. So yes, playing 1/4 of snaps MIGHT work, but they would of necessity have to be last games of season, playoffs and SB. If he played 300-500 snaps that would be fantastic...but still, we need those in playoffs/SB.
(We talked some last yr about holding Dee out of games he played in, to save him for when we had to have him. Eg, in SB...but nothing ever came of it.)
How could that be arranged? Well, there's the sticky part...it can't. Looking back at last season, when Dee played he was great .But just getting 1/4 of snaps and all at end of yr...is that likely? Nope.
I believe he had surgery at end of season, but nothing post op is ever as good as it was beforehand. Surgical cleanout can Conceivably help a knee (not a hammy), but it can't dictate when he might be able to play. So rather than hoping for 300-500 snaps for Dee(which i would love) , if he can't play in playoffs or SB, exactly just how valuable is he to us.?
Would love to see Dee way more healthy than last yr, and see him playing all yr altho, in limited capacity that allowed him to go full out when he did play. Sadly, i just think that is asking too much of beat up old knees, and don't expect a miracle 300-500 snaps...but if so, to include end of season snaps, ie, when in playoffs, and esp SB.(we didn't need him in either playoff game...we did in SB, however).
Freeing up cap money by converting some of his salary to bonus $$ is a great idea. Extending big Trent before season goes very far is a super idea. But Dee being useful to us when we really need it in 2020 and esp in Feb 2021? That just seems iffy and wishful thinking at best. We are already paying him so parting ways with Dee is of no help to us. But sometime, JL and KS are going to have to sit down and decide: is Dee really able to be there when we need him...or not? And i am afraid it is the latter. Then HC/GM have a decision to make.
This all goes into the file of no more draftees, FAs, trades for players w/ injury hx. Now that JL has gotten terrific talent on the team, we won't /shouldn't ahve to do that anymore. Meantime we have Dee, a true force at ER...when he is healthy. And that last part, "when" is what JL and KS have to decide. When he is NOT in the lineup , then we are one super stud less at ER, and that makes a huge difference at SB time, maybe in playoffs too.
do i have an answer? No. But it is becoming more and more apparent, that Dee remaining here but playing only limited snaps , is a major issue for us. And all of us hope he is heathy enough to play. If not, then...well, we'll see.
