I was rewatching the Super Bowl.
One play that has not been mentioned much by the media is the pass interference on Moore.
I have seen this called more than a few times, and I do not think it is fair.
The contact between Moore and Kelce was not initiated by Moore, but a result of the sudden stop by Kelce and the momentum of Moore.
I don't think it's fair to the defender to call a pass interference on that kind of a play.
An example of when this was called but picked up was the Panthers game involving Gronk several years ago. The linebacker was covering Gronk, and the sudden stop caused him to careen into him.
The Chiefs had this type of call go against them against the Patriots in the regular season.
Did you agree with the call in the Super Bowl?

The refs were horrible in the sb. That call and little op call were egregious.

This is one reason I support the replay of PI calls. It can help determine if momentum caused contact

I just hate the fact that 75% of DBs are not being thought to play the ball or LOOK BACK !!!
most of the PI calls are because DBs had their back turned... our CBs need to have the Deion Sanders Offensive Corner Mentality instead of defending the pass..
Super Bowl 18, that INT by #21 Eric Wright on Mark Clayton still tot this day is one of the best INT these eyes have seen... 1st ??
Deion on Michael Irvin and the Canes.. that was just BEAUTIFUL !!!

Well, sometimes you don't have time to look back.

I think if contact occurs because of momentum, it should not be a flag

This is something that has always bothered me about football. QBs get rewarded for throwing a s**tty pass and underthrowing it. I wish they would allow more contact with receivers down field to be honest. No holding but I think a DB should be able to jam a receiver as long as the balls not in the air. But no once they get past 5 yards they don't have to earn anything.

What gets me is when the defender goes for the ball, and does not even throw his body at the receiver when they are near the sidelines. Even if you miss, you are not allowing the receiver, who now caught the ball, to land inbounds. It won't be pass interference as you also have every right to grab that ball.

Yeah, even by the body language, it was clear Moore was doing his patent Saleh technique of back to the QB, throw hands up and hope it deflects the ball upon arrival or swipe as it arrives and punch through it through the duration.
But it was clear he wasn't playing the receiver at all and that's the frustrating part because he has a right to play the ball also, even blindly.
But the wiley veteran CAN see the ball and all he has to do is reach for the ball and it looks egregious at contact between the two and not having looked back, it'll always be justified Moore was playing the body and not the ball. Sucks.
It's equivalent to a QB or offensive player ducking right into a helmet hit. They never take the action of the offensive player into consideration of the play. It's up to the defender to defy the laws of physics.

This is a lot like the charge/blocking foul in the NBA. It's really subjective on the part of officials and I don't know how you can fix that. You can't eliminate the rule and they already spend way too much time reviewing plays.

Actions that constitute pass interference include:
1) contact by a defender who is not playing the ball, which affects the receivers ability to make a play on the ball.
You can argue he is not playing ball, but he does not initiate contact.
If he had put out his hands and contacted the receiver, that is a penalty. It is called a cut-off
The Broncos were called for a penalty like this in the Mile High Miracle game.
The Jaguars were called for a penalty like this in the AFC title game against the Patriots a couple years ago.
Also, I did not hear that PI was not longer reviewable. Link?

I know this is a PI thread but you were reviewing the SB. The 49ers were not going to get calls. On a 3rd down play with 9+ mins left in the 4th, Jimmy G scrambled for 2 yards but was well short of a first down. However, there was a Chiefs player (#92) that was offsides (clear as day; he jumped early) and the refs didn't call it. Even Troy Aikman was like, "It looks like (so and so player) jumped offsides.

The refs decided they weren't gonna be a story so decided to not call anything. Such BS, there was another play when Jimmy clearly got hit out of bounds and should have been an automatic 15 but of course we didn't get that either. Let's not even get into the 3rd and 15 egregious holding on Bosa.
We were the better team and lost, that's the sad part about last season.
Similar to 2011 when we lost to the Giants. We were the best team in the NFL that year too but didn't even get to the SB bc of Ahmad Bradshaw and the ridiculous "forward progress" call.
