This is one thing about Shanny that really gets to me. So I've given up trying to get a handle of what Shanny's vision on WR's is. The only thing I can say is that he's really not into physical big-body WR's, he covets speed and route running, and versatility. Whatever Sanu isn't he isn't unproductive, much more productive than Pettis. But to be honest I really didn't know why we even signed him. He has very little of what I think Shanny wants in his WR's. So I really think that was more of a Lynch signing than Shanny.
I have just resigned myself to the thinking that Shanny is just plain in his ego about Pettis, and about the WR position. I suppose he has a right to; he's the HC and has a right to his vision of WR's. I just wish his vision of WR's included a physical big body that can win on the outside consistently and won't need to be schemed open.
But when it comes to Pettis Shanny's gonna go down with the ship on that mistaken pick, and at the very least ride out his rookie deal. He simply won't cut him no matter who's in front of him on the depth chart. Pettis had no business making the roster IMHO. At best he should be on the PS. In my mind Kevin White or Jauan Jennings should be elevated. But that won't happen! White isn't "his guy" and Jennings, I believe, is a John Lynch pick. So no matter how god-awful Pettis is or how little he gives to this team (and make no mistake about it, he's given this team nothing) he isn't going anywhere and will remain a waisted roster spot.
That's the net-net of it.
Some of you guys need to give it a rest.
Now this is all about KS's ego. Good grief!
This thread reminds me so much about the CJ thread before the Philly game. Some of you gurus couldn't understand why KS would waste a roster spot on the guy. Ego, etc., etc.. I took exception to someone stating categorically that he simply wasn't an NFL caliber player and never would be. Can't process information. Slow . . . blah, blah, blah. Now same guy has conveniently shelved all he said and is pontificating about the superior qualities that make CJ so successful. Some people have no idea and, importantly, no shame.
Same thing here: You have no idea how KS's evaluates the kid. You're not witness to any practices, player meetings, or coaches meetings. But you know better. It's all the coach's ego. Just like Beathard. Just like Joe Williams (Oops! nvm). You KNOW that White and Jennings are better. White I can see why you may THINK White has potential . . . Jennings? Oh, I forgot, he's Lynch's pick. Nice thing you threw in the "I believe" bit. That is such out-of-the-blue pure fiction that you drummed up to bolster your feeble and fallacious arguments, it's shameful.
Now, if I were like you I'd be saying that Jennings is all about the coach's ego. Taking up a valuable spot on the PS. As a outsider I could say it's difficult to see what he brings to the table. He's slower than all of the team's TE's. S-L-O-W. Smaller. And from what little clips that we saw from TC, looked less than pedestrian. The team could just split out a TE and be better off. But I trust that the coach has a plan for the guy. And has seen enough to hang on to him.
Same with Pettis. One cannot objectively claim that he has been given any real chances to distinguish himself. He's not far enough up the pecking order. But for now the coach sees fit to give him a spot on the active roster.
So deal with it. You and all you know-it-alls who keep bringing Pettis' name up out of the blue and bashing him at every opportunity. It's quite pathetic.
Question: then why are you here?
You do realize that the forum sections of 49erswebzone.com IS one big opinion space
for fans, don't you? I just love when folks bring the you're-not-in-the-coaches-meeting argument to the table. It's your
perthitic attempt to silence opinions you don't like. It's kind of the same thing as whoever brings ad hominems to an intellectual debate looses the debate. But don't feel bad, you're not alone around these parts to have that as the basis of their pathetic argument.
One cannot objectively claim that he has been given any real chances to distinguish himself.
Now that has got to be among the most deluded comments any 49er fan who's paid any real attention since Pettis was drafted. I had to read that sentence a few times to make sure I read it correctly. Even fans who've vehemently disagreed with me on Pettis wouldn't/couldn't remotely suggest that Pettis hasn't been given a "real chances to distinguish himself". The fact is that Pettis in fact
HAS distinguished himself - to be an abject bust of a pick, and to this point a wasted roster spot. Much to my chagrin Shanny has given Pettis every opportunity to showcase himself, and what he's shown hasn't measured up. Here's a fact for you: Pettis HAS NOT given this team anything close to the production commensurate to his draft status and what this team gave up to draft him. I defy you to prove otherwise.
Yes, I didn't think we should have drafted Pettis, for much of what we're seeing now from him . . .
Yes, I think Shanny is in his ego about Pettis and the WR position . . .
As stated I think he has every right to be. He's the HC
Yes, I think Jennings/White should be promoted to the 53 and Pettis demoted to the PS . . .
No, I'm not one of the coaches in the room. And your point? I've been a football coach and scout for more than 15 years. I think it's safe to say I know
SOMETHING about what I'm looking at when it comes to football players . . . .
No sir, YOU give it a rest.
