I've done that a couple times before, we stayed in a condo this time cause it had a big playground and 2 pools. My daughter will be 4 in December so it was great for her.
Great breakdown. I was pretty frustrated during the game watching it live seemingly running out backs into a brick wall most of the time during that first quarter+ but hearing about the Patriots 'defeat' formation employed against the Rams explains it better. Awesome to see that Shanny has a solution for that on the fly. Fred Warner is so special... cant wait to see the bonus breakdown!

The 49ers run game really struggled as you touched on how NYG went with formation geared towards stopping the run. But the 49ers really miss Kittle here as Dwelley is average at best in run blocking and it's not Reed's strongsuit. So far, Woerner has not been the blocker he was advertised to be. When the 49ers used 2TE sets, it suffered in the run blocking aspect. Coupled with how NYG was set on stopping the run on early downs, it resulted in a poor rushing effort. But Mullens came through.

The second play you cut up (Reed catch on 3rd & 10), I thought was Mullens' best throw of the game, but a close second was the 26 yarder to Jet. I thought Mullens was patient in the pocket and looked decisive. He also had a touchdown to Jet on a scramble play that got called back because of a penalty on Brunskill that would have been highlight worthy. Really impressed by Mullens play.

If you do the Warner breakdown, check the play at 1Q 7:04 (+9 completion). NYG ran the same concept on the Warner INT. The second time, Warner didn't follow the QB's eyes, baited the QB, and earned himself an INT (with help from Armstead and Ansah). The 49ers are trusting him and Ward to play man coverage so they can get creative with their blitzes. You mentioned how those slot DB blitzes were so effective. They really were and I am excited that Saleh has added some nice pressure packages that take advantage of how versatile Warner and Ward are. KWilliams also a key player in this. This 49er defense does not look anything like the 2017/18 defense scheme-wise.

The 49ers run defense was again excellent. NYG only had their QB runs. Their conventional run game was ineffective and it started with that 49er DL. These guys are not getting moved. It's a big, stout DL with Ford and Solly not in the lineup. Getting Daniels into favorable 3rd downs really allowed Saleh to showcase those blitz packages. 49ers once again challenged the WRs on 3rd down with lots of man coverage. I don't know if it's because the past two games had low level QB/WR competition or if this is a new tweak this season. They did it week 1 as well so I think this is a new wrinkle - the higher frequency that they man up on 3rd downs.

No kidding how you said NYG's defense is sloppy. Nice cut up of the blown coverage on Taylor. On the JWilson dumpoff catch (3rd & 8), NYG only had 10 defenders on the field. They called Cover 1 blitz and no one was assigned to cover Wilson.
There was another play (Juice +7 catch) where a curl/flat defender blitzed (Cover3) and no one covered his area. It didn't seem like he was supposed to blitz. Credit to Mullens for seeing these three blown coverages. Less offseason preparation really hurts the teams with new coaching staffs like NYG. They mixed up their coverages well, but Mullens had no trouble.

This is the play immediately after the Warner INT with 1 minute left in the first half. On a closer look, this ball was well placed by Mullens and Jet showed off his hands.

49ers are looking for a triangle stretch with red + purple + green and a Smash concept to the left.
vs Cover3. NYG thinks the 49ers want to get a quick pass to secure field goal range, they're right. NYG will have 8 in coverage by dropping the blue DT into coverage and rushing 3.

Bourne is to occupy the red Hook defender upfield, which he does. Dwelley takes the curl/flat defender, which he does. And that's supposed to free up Taylor on a short drag route. But with the blue DT dropping back into coverage, he walls off Taylor's route. No one is open to the right.
Left side of field: Jet takes an inside release on the weakside curl/flat defender. This is important so that the orange CB kind of loses sight of Jet and gets occupied by Aiyuk. Orange CB is responsible for his deep 1/3.

Mullens resets and looks left. He sees Jet even with orange. Orange is not gaining the depth he needs to because he's occupied with Aiyuk.

Mullens mid windup. The orange CB starts to bail and Mullens locates this ball to the inside. It forces Jet to have to contort around to adjust but it becomes a safer throw because it's away from the orange CB.

+26. This is drawn up as a quick pass since Mullens took a very short dropback. Nice job staying patient and finding the open target after the right side of the field was well covered. Great catch, nice ball location.
Great job Jonny, can't wait for the Warner film. Fred has been playing like a top 3 LB so far this year.

Alexander on the other hand has looked god awful every game this year. If he keeps it up and Greenlaw is healthy, by mid season we should see a change.

I thought Alexander played a very, very good game vs the Jets. He looked like week 1 2019 Kwon to me

Can't speak for him, but, 17/18 we'd like up in a 4-3 under/over, single safety and either be in C3 or C1 and our only disguise was if it was man or zone. Rarely blitzed and when we did they were simple blitzes. This year, we see a lot more shell look pre-snap, more exotic blitzes, more C2 and man usage. All this dies have to do with the W9 scheme change and run fits for safeties as well as a shift in our LB corps. We no longer carry on in line LB, we have stack backers across the board.

These are the differences from 2017/18 to 2019, in my observation:
- 2017/18 had 5 man fronts in base (4-3 Under), in 2019 that was gone as they went to wide9 which is a four man front with all three LBs off the ball.
- Like jd said, 2017/18 was all about single high safety coverages (Cover1, Cover3). 2019 had much more split safety coverages in comparison (Quarters, Cover6, Cover2)
- These are all changes that deviate away from the "Seattle Cover3" that we saw with the Legion of Boom. I don't know what SEA does nowadays.

Through three games in 2020, these are the differences I have noticed from 2019 to 2020:
- More blitzing of DBs (Ward, KWilliams)
- more man coverage on 3rd downs
- playing the two outside CBs as field and boundary. In this game, Verrett was the field CB.

All these changes over the past two seasons move the scheme away from being the "Seattle Cover3" and gives the 49er defense its own identity. I think it's a good thing because I like being able to throw variety at opposing QBs and giving them more to think about during the week of preparation.

sorta, the 1q play they ran a stick/ohio concept. The INT, they ran an outside curl, slot streak and a stick route from the inside receiver(the one Warner picked off). Warner said they had been working on that play in practice during the week and Tartt called it out before the play. That's how he was able to run the route without looking at the WR.

Oh you're right, that 1Q play was Sticks. The INT play was similar but not the same. The route from the #3 WR is same. Eh, thought I was on to something, thinking Warner saw the play once then sniffed it out the second time. Yeah I heard Warner's comments about how he identified the play presnap.

I thought Alexander played a very, very good game vs the Jets. He looked like week 1 2019 Kwon to me

I stand corrected god awful was a bit much but he did not look good by any means. All of their biggest plays were a direct result of him misreading/being out of position. All of the designed QB runs he looked silly. Especially the read option around the 9 min mark in the 3rd quarter, he tries to set the edge but ends up doing this weird unathletic looking block shed slip/fall down move that you cant tell if it was a mistake or on purpose. He is very much a liability in the run game.

What I will give him credit on is his ability to go man up on the RB in the passing game. He completely shutdown Lewis.

It might be confirmation bias on my part, but too often, big runs start with Kwon not playing his assignment with discipline. The NYG and NYJ offenses are pathetic so lots of 49er defenders are going to look fine. Kwon is in his element covering on pass plays. Run defense is not his strong suit.
