jd, the play you cut up at 5:40 of your vid.
Saleh is again leaning on his CBs to man up while asking his safeties to take away the middle of the field. It looks like Cover2, but the safeties are pretty shallow and are not interested at all in providing help to the outside CBs. The increase in man coverage is a nice adjustment and playing to his roster's current strengths. The 49ers playing man coverage on 3rd downs is becoming a noticeable trend. Will be interesting how he approaches SEA and their explosive WRs.

Enjoyed the breakdown of the play where Hyder was in coverage. I saw a gif of that play after the game and was confused as to why a 275lb man was in coverage lol.

Even though the Patriots roster isn't what it was a few years ago, it excites me knowing our head-coach can go blow-for-blow with one of (if not the) greatest minds in NFL history.
It's one thing to beat someone with a fortunate bounce here or there, or with superior talent, but to schematically dice up Bill Belicheck makes me happy.
Shanahan was born to coach Football.
Thanks as always, THL and JD!

Joe Thomas said last year that Shanahan loved scheming the run game a lot more than the pass game. This was like BB vs Peyton Manning but in the run game. Bill kept shifting his fronts back and forth and Kyle seemed always one step ahead on his fronts and coverages. It was pure awesome to watch. Hope you enjoy!
Love the breakdown on the Dino route, love that the deep shots are calculated and not just the QB throwing up a 50-50 ball

Didn't Kettle convert the third down on that play? Can't say the underneath play picks up the first

It was 3rd down, the window to Kittle was there, just a bad throw.

Yeah, in Kyle's system, there's very, very few 50/50 balls. I'm pretty sure he's opposed to them because why throw a 50/50 ball if you don't have to? If a receiver has a step? sure. But, if not, he'll take the offense staying on schedule all day long.

Well, except when it isn't. Leaving Allen all by himself is the reason why the defense got destroyed by a 37 year old career backup with throws that would've resulted in an interception vs. Verrett or Sherman.Originally posted by thl408:

That's not exactly how it happened. He tries to limit Allen's tasks but that didn't even help. Not much a guy can do when you're on your 7th corner.
He tries to keep him in deep 1/3, which has one big job, don't let anyone behind you, he couldn't do that one job. Again, 7th corner who had to be pulled up from the practice squad. You would like to think even a practice squad gug could handle that one job....nope.

zugschef: I was referring to the last two games - LAR and NE.
jd, about BAllen, I think it was just that very first play of the game where he had a 1/3 zone and was in bail technique (don't get beat deep). If I remember correctly, most of the other times BAllen got beat deep vs MIA, the 49ers were in a Cover3, but BAllen was in man coverage. I remember multiple times where he pressed the WR, had his back turned to the QB, and got beat. That first play of the game was inexcusable as he was in bail and still got beat deep. The other times, I put that on Saleh for having a depth CB man up on an island.

@thl I got you, I just wanted to remind that Saleh has already done that when it was absolutely the worst thing he could've done.Originally posted by thl408:zugschef: I was referring to the last two games - LAR and NE.

The problem on the first play was that he was unable to correctly adjust to the underthrown ball. If he wouldn't have stopped, he could've easily broken up or maybe even intercepted the ball. So yes, I agree, that one's on Allen. But after that play Saleh should have immediately made a mental note and given him help on every single play; which he for some totally inexplicable reason didn't.
It was utterly ridiculous. Just as if Saleh was thinking that surely they won't call that every time they need a chunk play because it's cheap or something. D'uh!
