The bottom line is Hyder is getting sacks. Nobody else on this team is getting many. How much they pay him if the sign him next year isn't really my concern. They know what they can or cannot afford since the cap is such a big issue. Any pass rusher they sign to replace him unless he's a draftee is going want a lot of money. All DEs think they're worth a lot. Hyder might not be Bosa but I don't expect every guy in the line to be an all pro. Just productive.

The DE market might be very, very favorable next year. There's a number of quality guys hitting the market. Hyder, Aldon Smith, Ryan Kerrigan, Melvin Ingram, Shaquille Barrett, Leonard Floyd, Matt Judon(8 sacks so far), all these guys would be highly productive for us and there will be very few bidders for these guys compared to normal. Plus, we can cut Ford and save 14 mil against the cap. I'm pretty sure with the cap tanking next year we'll be able to get one of those guys for at absolute max 14 mil. I could see us getting Smith or Barrett on a 1 year deal for 12 mil. I don't see many teams able to offer much more than that with the cap situation. If you were Barrett and could cash in on one year at a decent wage, play across from Nick Bosa and eat and get a MASSIVE contract the next year, wouldn't you?

Anyone have cutups or a breakdown of Sherman at safety? I'm curious to see what they're starting to scheme up...

Terrific point.
But knowing our FO tendencies, they'll just low bargain approach Hyder and Blair to keep AA at LDE on base sets. I don't think they're looking for a 3 down ER like Bosa at RDE even in this W9.
I agree with you though. That's what they SHOULD be looking for esp. a speed rusher and one with enough athleticism to help control mobile QB's and the OZ runs on the edge as we face so much of it in our own division.

FYI for folks interested in film:
Alright we're doing this again tonight! Film stuff through Google Meetings. Yes I am a boomer for not using Zoom.

Topic? You decide like we did last night where we covered some 49ers O and D under KS, some JH era stuff, as well as some GB O.https://t.co/dwIkxTwgfv

I want to ask him if Kyle still wants that horizontal passing game.

Interesting prediction NC. Thy did low bargain Hyder. He went to Hawks and we replaced him with overpaying a middle-tier player in Ebukam who should come in and move AA inside on obvious passing downs. The real question is how healthy/effective will Bosa be.

Oh sorry, got really busy. My kids got pretty sick with seasonal allergies - if you've ever been in the south during pollen season, you know.
Then I was selling my old truck and got a newer one and have been really busy ever since. I'm sure people are assuming I've been crying in some hole but my life really does revolve around more than the WZ and 49ers qb's.

Sorry to hear about the kids. Congrats on the truck
no, we didn't think you were still crying in a hole. After a day or ten, I'm sure you were good
can you give us breakdowns of the three options? Exciting times... who do you think is the best out of the three to be our real franchise QB?

Well, here's my initial scouting report:
Fields: live arm, elite athlete, can make something out of nothing, fearless thrower, heavy arm thrower which means he generates lots of power from just his arm, when he knows where he wants to go with the ball, he's very accurate.
Negatives: his footwork is really bad, it will take quite some time before he's able to operate in a timing based WCO like Shanahan wants, as far as footwork is concerned, accuracy under pressure can be very spotty/bad, doesn't have great pocket feel - will often not react to pressure until it's right there(reminds me of Kaepernick in this regard), needs work on throwing into zones with anticipation.
He's very talented but pretty raw. I think the deshaun Watson comparisons are unfair to him. He's fields, not Watson. Watson had 2 very successful years as a starter under his belt. He'll need 1, maybe 2 years to really develop IMO.
Mac Jones: elite accuracy, can make all the throws, very good understanding of the offense/progressions to get deep in the progressions, throws with excellent anticipation, tough under pressure(go look at his 1st passing td vs MIZZOU), put up insane passing numbers this past year, great footwork from shotgun, great pocket awareness/management.
Negatives: not an elite athlete, has no tools to avoid pressure other than his arm, there are character concerns.
The negatives about Jones are all about him not being a deshaun watson type.
Lance: talented but raw. Huge arm, lots of experience operating under center, explosive runner, above average accuracy.
Negatives: doesn't handle pressure well, passing was very spotty/poor in his 1 game this year(50% comp 5 YPA, 150 yds 2 TD 1 INT), will take development in a sophisticated drop back passing game.
To me, Fields has the highest potential - could be a deshaun watson type, or could be a Dwayne Haskins. There's a lot of question marks and would benefit from sitting and learning and working one the game from the ground up but will need to unlearn and relearn things.
If he's the pick, at minimum, Jimmy should be here 2 years, barring injury IMO. I could be wrong but he's raw.
Jones, I see him as faster plug and play. His biggest issue is adjusting to under center more and turning his back to the defense. If we're looking at keeping a consistent qn room to insulate against injury, Jones makes more sense. You will have the exact same playbook with Jimmy/Jones/Sudfeld/Rosen. With Fields, you'll have a slightly different playbook.

None of them are perfect and will need time to coach them up to NFL standard and for them to learn the system. It would be crazy to think that they would start this season and replace JG. It would still be against the odds to think they would be the starter in 2022. If JG stays fit and healthy for the next two years and keeps winning the draftee will still be sitting around.
The idea of a rookie starting in his first year is a good way to break a rookie.
