Kinlaw's first step causes the RG to also step towards Kinlaw. This opens up the B gap...

For Warner to attack and penetrate.

No gain. Turnover on downs.

Flawless execution.

Kinlaw and Jones stonewalled those olinemen. They barely got off the line of scrimmage.

Great stuff, thl. I thought I was gonna get to a vid this week but I'm on vacation in the Smokey Mountains and it just ain't gonna happen.
You should totally show a couple plays: the Coleman 16 yarder, Jimmy reads the Tampa defender on a verticals concept and throws a dime.

The first Jordan Reed TD was the same play as Kittles epic 4th and 2 vs NO.

Smokey Mountainexcuses?

This is the decisiveness we didn't see enough of week 1. Trust the route combination versus the coverage and let it rip.
After JG has to direct Coleman and Sanu where to line up, 49ers line up empty. I think Jimmy, like many QBs, is at his quickest when the formation is spread out. It gives a clearer look for the QB and reduces chances for exotic blitzes. He did well vs ARI when in spread formation.
4 verticals vs Tampa2

The pipe defender in a Tampa2 (orange) always gains depth while facing the strongside of the passing formation. Jimmy takes the snap and first looks to his left, moving the pipe defender away from where Jimmy wants to go.

Throw on rhythm (Coleman just about to enter break) with excellent ball placement. In front of the safety, low, away from the pipe defender, and beyond the red Hook defender.

Had to show Aiyuk's first catch of his career. He looks dangerous with the ball in his hands even though this play won't show it.
Bench concept vs Tampa2.
Yellow and red work to vertically stretch the orange flat defender. Purple and green are to beat Cover 3. NYJ dialing up a fancy rush - drop two blue DLs to Hook zones, rush the two blue CBs.

Jimmy takes the snap and correctly works the Bench combination versus Tampa2. Taylor is bumped by the blitzing slot CB.

Based on timing of Jimmy's drop, I think this is when he wants to throw to be in rhythm. Taylor, already a slow WR, and bumped at the line, is slow in running this route. The quicker Taylor can get upfield to threaten the yellow circle area behind the CB and in front of the safety, the sooner the CB will gain depth and back off Bourne. Here, the flat defender CB is able to defend both Bourne and Taylor's route. Blue safety also compressing the area because he knows Taylor is not a speed threat. Jimmy can't throw this.

Jet dives to send the CB flying by for Jimmy to escape. The weakside safety matches Aiyuk's Dig.

Aiyuk coming across to help his QB. I think Jimmy is targeting Bourne.

Aiyuk with the intereception.

+8. Nice playmaking to get the first down when the route concept didn't win.

This is the same play as the 4th down to end the game vs ARI.
2Q 3rd & 9

vs Tampa2
Progression is Bourne - Taylor - Reed.

Safety in position, Alert is not open. CB squatting the flat, Bourne not open.

Pipe defender matches Taylor, Hook defender in passing lane - not open.

Reed coming out of his swirl. Leverage read.

Ward had some rough downs where he allowed some first downs to get converted on his watch.I was curios what was going on, it seemed like the Jets were picking on him. 49ers wanted to challenge these WRs so Jets bunch it up.
Ward is being asked to come down to play slot CB so that Warner and Kwon are able to crowd the line and create confusion for the DL. Facing a bunch formation, notice his first step at the snap, sideways, runs into the pick. Don't know what he can do here.

-------------------
Sideways, runs into KWilliams.

-----------------------------------
2Q 1st & 10. Saleh dials up some exotic. He will rush Greenlaw and drop AA into coverage, still rushing 4. Warner all up in the A gap to occupy the Center as a blitz threat. 49ers in Quarters defense.

Warner acts to blitz but will peel off. The act of pretending to blitz makes him late to his curl/flat zone.

The confusion earns Greenlaw as a free rusher. But the Jets have a play dialed up to give Darnold a quick option in the flat. Ward as a Quarters safety reads the #2 WR and will match if #2 goes vertical, but Ward needs help in the first five yards. There's no curl/flat defender. Moseley has to watch the #1.

This is on NYJ opening drive of 2nd half. As Ward follows the motion WR, Spoon and Ward have worked out who is going under/over, to avoid the pick. Ward's first step is backwards, he will play over the pick. This helps Spoon defend a possible Slant and allows Ward to drive downhill and attack the quick out route NYJ was hitting in the first half. Good adjustment.

This play seems like it is designed to force the FS to make a decision. Seems like the FS here didn't open his hips while JG was dropping back. Jimmy had time as well. A look at Coleman and then a throw over the top down that sideline quite possibly gets a TD.
