Player safety but he lets the league put that joke of a turf out there.

Yes. I mean,...there should be some protocol for breaking in new turf. Activate it before your multi-million dollar players get to go run all over it for the 1st time. The guys were dropping like flies out there in the 1st half until it was broken in. They could've done alot of things to prevent this.

The Giants and Steelers played on it on Monday, this wasnt the first game on it. First game during the day though. Does it act different with heat from the sun?

When AstroTurf first came out in mid 60s or somewhere back there in the "9th wonder of the world Astrodome" (according to Texans), there was a lot of discussion if that caused a lot more knee injuries. I've walked on it, never played on it, only grass. The obvious thing is grass and dirt fields (not frozen) give and give plenty. You can slide. But on artificial it seems only logical that cleats are going to get hung up more than they would in grass or dirt.

There never was a determination if AstroTurf caused injuries to knees, ankles, etc, moreso thaN natural grass. But an awful lot of folks sure thot so.

I don't get how it couldn't? Dirt would naturally absorb more of the energy when you dig your foot into the ground vs astroturf, so even if you weren't getting stuck, you'd be be pounding the hell out of your ankles and knees way more on turf

New turf isn't astroturf anymore. There's a huge difference between new and old turf. Don't know why the players said it was so terrible today though, not something you normally hear complaints about on a turf field.

There was a touch back on a punt that spoke volumes about that field in I think the 4th Quarter. The gunner slid for nearly 5 yards with that rubber flying everywhere. It was a slick field.

I thought they complained about the opposite though, that it was sticky?

Sticky, slick it was a bad field today that created some weird injuries and plays.
it was sticky not slippery, which would explain the knee injuries

I've played on Turf in about 6 games (one in HS and 5 in college). It sucks. I felt the pounding in my joints after the game. The thing is that it wears on your body which, I would argue, is one of the reasons players get hurt. Luckily I was pretty young when I played on it but I would hate to have to go on a turf field for every game.

I get the stats on the injuries doesn't prove turf fields are more dangerous. However, I think one of the things with turf fields is the wear and tear. You might not get hurt on a turf field in a specific game but you could go down the next game on a grass field because of the injuries you sustained on the turf field the week prior. Sure, that can't be proven but I firmly believe the turf field has a greater negative impact on a player's body than playing on grass.

They didn't show the game over here, so I was checking the scores from time to time and before I know it half the team is injured?! So, the season is over already??

The D-line was already so so without Buckner, without Bosa plus an extremely injury prone Dee Ford you don't stand a chance. Our D is built from front to back, not to mention Sherman is already on IR.

The only way out is to do what we did last year when the D wasn't delivering namely during the period when Dee Ford was down. In other words, win with offense, that is the only way. But, will that be enough or will it take us far? Probably not.

The team will rally and the front office will need to not only start calling people for workouts, but to actually make signings. Not that we have much cap left, but I see EDGE as the priority. Start by promoting Dion Jordan from the practice squad, but that won't be enough, will need more.

True, but sliding , and sticking your cleats in the non mobile turf is an entirely different thing. And i agree that AstroTurf, the first one, was entirely different than today's multiple products. Still, if you stick your cleats in it, they pretty much stay. You don't slide 4 or 5 feet with your cleats stuck in the turf.

you can however, bend your knee backwards or torque your ankle of knee with your cleats stuck in a turf that doesn't allow give , like grass and dirt do. Kittle's injury last week had that been turf...would have ended his season right there. Of that i have no doubt.

Yep. Bosa got rolled over like that a few times last year but his leg slid put. Today, it was glued to the turf as body was twisted over.

I dont know anything about the Jets field, but from what I recall I think its some sort of artifical turf over concrete. I think its the concrete part that causes the impact injuries, and the field plus the concrete creates the torque injuries. If its anything like some of the fields at some of the bay area universities, its just basically a rubber carpet over concrete.
Giants had two guys go on IR with leg injuries after playing on that s**t

I'm not ready to throw in the season yet, but possibly the 49ers front office can use this season and a rebuild/reload year if the season turns out to be a disaster. Basically (God forbid) if we have a great draft position, we can finally get some depth at DB, OLine, and get more quality at possibly the DE and QB positions.

There is still a very very small chance that Bosa's injury isn't as bad as we all think it is, and that's all that's keeping me sane right now.
Nick Mullins can win. He can beat the Giants. Let's not overreact. If he's a top 10 backup then we will be fine. Nick Bosa is great, but he needs Dee Ford to play at superstar level. Which means we are used to playing with a non superstar at that position. Thomas is easily replaced with Kinlaw. Mostert is good, but we have depth there.

This season isn't lost.

If Shanahan can outright say "most likely ACL", it is most likely ACL. Hasn't Bosa torn his ACL before at Ohio State? If so, he probably knows what it feels like.

Realistically, I think we can still win games, like I said win with offense and Jimmy G and the crew will have to literally overperform. But, there is only so far you can go when you are so undermanned. And Jimmy G will most likely be out for a at least a couple of games too? Sigh...
