Niners win, but NFL loses...BIG TIME

As posted above, I've played both, NCAA soccer in college, and they just aren't the same re: injuries for all reasons noted above. Collisions and 300 lb guys torquing knees, getting hit by 330 lb Dlinemen, helmet to helmet...there is just no comparison to soccer and NFL football, w/r/to which sport is by far and away the worst on physical bodies and body parts.(head, knee, ankles, hammys, shoulders, etc)

Yep. Less exposure meant less chance of getting Covid. Owners only wanted it to make money they don't have to share with other owners. Either way Covid is what got the pre season cancelled.

And the nfl could careless about these guys who are injured. They just worried about that t.v. money. Especially being that no big name qb's have been hurt.

People love saying that but reality is they need these players healthy or they end up with an inferior product.

And ppl will still watch. Have you seen the pro bowl ratings? Or this terrible Thursday night games ratings? Plenty of mediocre football being played right now. Unless it's a slew of star qb's they don't care. These injuries aren't hurting the bottom line

Truth is most of these owners were Billionaires before or have become since they've owned a team and don't really need the profit.
Most of these owners love the game, love winning and love their players.

Like the Texans and Jets owner who called their players slaves. Or the former Panthers owner? Yea I'm sure these guys don't care about profits at all. What billionaire would care if his team is making money or not.

The owners were forced to implement all these rules by the players, public perception and CTE lawsuits. They didn't wake up and say hey let's protect the players. I'm sure some care about their players but they care about thier money more.
I agree that some player, maybe the majority, have been pushing to eliminate preseason for some time. At least from what I've heard. And I had to Google to know the 4 game preseason started in 1978. So well before any active player was even alive at this point. And we all know how much faster and stronger these guys have become since then. So I hope that this lesson sticks. I think we all want to see a competitive and healthy team year in and year out. Because so far having no real off or pre season seems to be disastrous for health reasons.

You're talking about two former owners in Houston and Panthers. Ignoring owners like Robert Kraft, Art Rooney, Paul Allen, Clark Hunt, Steve Bisciotti all owners of winning organizations that have done a lot to protect players. The number of 'good guys' in the league outnumber the a-holes imo.

Point well taken, and even tho in times past i would have preferred the PS to just be four more weeks of practice, when you shortcut not only PS plus OTAs, plus practice time , TC, and so on...nothing good will come out of it. My preference was same time of OTA, practice, weights, sprints, workouts, TC, and continue the above instead of having PS. Just have 4 more weeks of practice.

Owners took that and figured out a way to squeeze more blood out of the beet. Have PAYING PS games instead of more TC. I didn't like it back in 1978 and i don't like it now. I continue to like the same amount of time but just make PS more TC. We have routinely lost players to injury in PS games. Keep the time frame the same, and just do away with PS games, which could be used for more TC.

I fully agree with you. It's not so much the preseason games that I'm concerned with as much as the TC like you stated. The ability to have more padded practices. And a nice slow and steady ramp up of contact at more game like speeds to properly prepare the body. As it stands, we basically went from walking to sprinting. With most of our practices being taken away. We definitely missed a few steps in there. Those steps I think would have went a long way towards preventing a good portion of these injuries. We keep up with this pace and the season will be shortened just due to not having enough players to field teams lol.

There is the essence of everything needed prior to season starting:

"a nice slow and steady ramp up of contact at more game like speeds to properly prepare the body". Add in "more padded practices"

and with the above: "this would have gone a long way towards preventing a good portion of these injuries."

Couldn't say it any better than that..
All these injuries because these players and owners were scared of a virus that won't do a damn thing but give flu like symptoms to 99.99999% of them.

There is no similarity at all between the beating one takes in football and what one takes in soccer. There is zero truth in soccer being as hard on players as NFL football.

Not even on the same planet.

Nobody became an NFL owner just because of the profit potential. The vast majority of the owners have a strong passion for football.
I think this simply proves the pre-season is absolutely necessary. (And 17th game stupid)

Owners should make pre-season games free. First come first serve. Charge parking and concessions etc. perfect setup IMO.
Trade for obj sign ab and try to compete for a sb with a bigtime offense only way but shanny wont go for it
