Do we still make the playoffs?

We should. We still have more talent than most teams. We just aren't loaded anymore. Team is still good enough for a winning record and with an extra slot available, we should make it.
People seem to forget that the Niners scored the 2nd most points in the league last season. This is not just a team that relies on Defense. They could score also. Once the Niners get everyone back on offense, they will be a top 5 offense or close to it. They won't need to have a top 5 defense. Look at all the SB contenders in the league, none of them other than the Ravens has a top defense.

1.Chiefs- average defense
2.Saints-decent defense but I wouldn't say elite.
3.Cowboys-horrible defense
4.Bucs-average defense
5.Seahawks-average defense. Below average with their recent injuries.

But all those teams can score points. And so can the Niners. And even with the injuries they still have a better defense than those teams IMO.
Difficult but not impossible. This is an unusual season. The team that can steer clear of injury of to key players will be the last one standing. Apart from those very very poor teams ... this is going to be wide open
If jimmy stays healthy we can make it.
It's only been 2 weeks. Who knows? But I couldn't help but think of Jim Mora. (Sorry if somebody beat me to this)

Nice post 100% agree

I'll ride with that. Sure the 9ers CAN make the playoffs. But everyone has to play their part.
It's a very tough division. And right now to me they look like the 4th best team in it.
That could change, but they have to show it come game time. Take advantage of breaks and win the close ones. They'll be a few of those.

LOL. Kyler Murray is still debatable. He wasn't the reason they beat us.

Wilson is proven, but their defense is butt.

Also, how do you know how everyone stacks up after just 2 games into Covid season? You give up way too easy.

I know, I don't see why people didn't watch the film on Kyler Murray, he missed many throws (easy ones at that) and he did not do too well as a passer against us as well as many other teams last year. He's a very good quarterback overall and his running ability will keep him dangerous but we lost because of a blocked punt and the fact we couldn't get less than a yard on fourth and goal.

As far as Seattle goes, their defense is absolute garbage.

But then again having all pro players and good starters will definitely kick our ass. Hopefully they are all back except Bosa by the Rams game. I would love to see how the Cardinals would be without Chandler Jones or the Seahawks without Jamal Adams. We lose our defensive players like it's going out of style and our division opponents are healthy as usual.

I think we make the playoffs as a wildcard unless other teams in our division get injured then we can easily take the division. We are a much better team than Seattle and the Cardinals WHEN healthy but then again they need that handicap to even compete with us.

Screw Jones or Adams, I'd like to see them without their starting QB's,each will be lucky to get to .500 haha

I believe Mullens is just as good or better than Hundley or Smith.

What if next week Hopkins and Wilson tear thier ACLs. Long season fellas. Too much battles and games to play. Let's revisit at the bye week.

Seattle would never ever be that unlucky, he has lucky rabbits feet, horseshoes and a bag of four leaf clovers up his ace.
The positive is as of now Bosa is the only long term major injury. Thomas is solid rotational player but the reality is he's replaceable.
Obviously there's no getting around how much of an impact no Bosa has on this defense. But if we can get through the next 2-3 weeks and get the bulk of our key injuries back....we absolutely can still have a strong playoff team.

Plenty of playoff teams out there have a worse defense then we'll have without Bosa. Also the thing to keep in mind, we had the #2 overall offense last year. If we return to health with Kittle, Deebo, Mostart back...this offense is in position to be much more dangerous this year.

I mean we still do have enough talent to make the playoffs, how far who knows I guess

To make the playoffs they can't lose more than 1 or 2 non divisional games

They'll probably split with every nfc west team not named az. That's 4 losses right there

I mean if jimmy can start playing like Tom Brady then yes we can make a run, the offense can carry the defensive injuries with kittle and deebo coming back, and I would deff be a player in trying to trade for Odell Beckem if I were Lynch , time to get aggressive herw

I wouldn't want to go after Beckham as a rental for the year. We couldn't keep him with our cap and trying to retain TW, and Bosa and others coming up. Be great if Verret could stay healthy and be a #1 cb again but his odds aren't good. Sherm is getting older and slower and Spoon just sucks so they need to look for at least 1 good corner,if not 2.

With the balance in the NFL you need a lot of things to go right to make it to the playoffs and the SB. Injuries of course. Schedule and when you play another team can change things dramatically. We're lucky to be facing the Jets, Giants, Eagles and Dolphins during this stretch. If it was the Rams, Seahawks, Saints and Packers we could be 1-5 instead of the 5-1 or 4-2 I expect.
We beat the living crap out of an NFL team without five our of our top 10 players (Kittle, Bosa, Sherman, Deebo, Ford), Thomas, and our freaking QB for a half. I understand it was the Jets, but they are still an NFL team that did literally squat against us. If the Seahawks, Cardinals, or Rams lost this equivalent of talent from their teams I am not sure they would win, let alone dominate the Jets. Bosa will be sorely missed. Ford's injury really sucks. But we still have tons of talent on defense, and loads of talent on offense. We need to get healthy (Jimmy, Kittle, Deebo, Mostert), but if we do I absolutely expect this team to compete for a playoff spot.

Here's my hot poop take - we get a wild card spot and then air raid on everyone. Our defense will be fine, and our offense will average 35 points per playoff game and win the SB.
The 49ers B Team is still scrappy enough to be competitive and pull out wins on the regular. Hell, I would take the 2019/2020 Niners B team over the 2016/2017 Niners starting squad. We're going to be okay. And guess what? We're getting a ton of guys back just in time for the tough part of the schedule which begins week 6 vs the Rams.

Stay faithful, niner gang.
