Don't forget Mahomes too. Point is the offense has a man advantage (in a sense) with a running QB that is a good passer. It may be that defenses are catching up to Kliff's offense, but we shall see. At this point in time, the way the rules are, mobile QB's like a Russel Wilson should dominate offensively nowadays.

As for *stopping* - in the old days, defenses like the '85 bear defense, the Baltimore defense, the tampa bay Kiffen defenses could stop offenses cold. As in 3 and out, and nowadays, you can have an offense be 3rd and 15 and with a running mobile QB, they con convert, so I think stopping these offenses is the wrong word, I think slowing them down is the better word.

That may be the biggest reason I'm not as enthusiastic about JG as some fans. The game is definitely changing to a more offensive game. As you pointed out, having a mobile QB can extend drives when it appears your defense has them stopped. Unfortunately that's one thing Jimmy can't do on any consistent basis. That not only can result in a score but it's deflating for the defense.

I used to think the running QBs couldn't last in the NFL but with rule changes and the uptempo option game that some of the college coaches have brought into the league, I've changed my mind. I think they may be here to stay unless there are some major rule changes that swing things back in favor of the defense. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Havent they been around since time without beginning?

Tarkenton
Cunningham
Young
Brunell
Culpepper
Kordell
Vick
McNair
Tebow
Kap

Cunningham was way ahead of his time. If Buddy Ryan actually cared working on that offense, the Eagles back then would have been hard to beat.

Has any team stopped Seadderall and AZ? I think AZ stopped themselves with (I think) 3 interceptions. The RPO, with all the added QB protection rules changes, is almost impossible to stop nowadays. I think that's why Bellicheat went with Cam Newton as his QB. They are now basically a running team.

What do you consider stopped? Arizona only scored 24 against us, 23 against the lions. I wouldn't say thats amazing. And against the lions, perhaps the 3 interceptions were the result of keeping Murray in the pocket?

We stopped Arizona. They couldn't get sh*t going on offense until the refs started calling flags on when we breathed on Murray when he ran. Won't be able to get blocked punts deep in our territory every game.

The way Wilson is playing right now is a lot more concerning to me because he's hitting those deep plays with such scary ease our Bosa less pass rush will simply not be able to get to him in time(at least enough times not to make those hurt) and our secondary simply isn't up to snuff IMO.

We're going to need to outscore them. But I'm not going to worry about how we match up to Seattle until we're ready to play them. Considering how sh*t has been this year with injuries who knows what the teams look like when we finally square up.

Greenlaw is out again
Did you get this from Twitter? I'm curious where I can get early practice attendance info. I always wait for the Niners to post it on their website around 5:00 or so...

Inman and other beat writers will put it in their articles on the front page. Usually with KS's injury comments. I guess the good news is he was off in a side field practicing

So you're talking about yesterday then... I was hoping we would see a full practice from both today.

The thing that is frustrating with guys like Murray, is he slides at the last second (even behind the line of scrimmage) just trying to draw the flag.
What's Vegas got us looking like?
The college QB's running the spread offenses, run and shoot, fun and gun are successful in college because the defenses can't defend it. There is not enough time to implement ways to stop these offenses. When these QB's become pros they are figured out in short order.

That used to be the case but the offenses are different now and are taking advantage of their skills. Wilson, Mahomes, Murray and several other young QBs are making big plays with that mobility. In the old days they ran when the pocket broke down. Now they are designing more plays to take advantage of that running ability. Cunningham was unique in his era and ran for a lot of yards. They never realy stopped him. He was never a great passer so that kind of stopped him.

All these guys except Young and Vick were below average passers. Tarenton was more of a scrambler that ran around in circles until he found an open receiver. He wasn't what I would call a runner.

The big difference now is the rules that protect a QB when he runs. He can go into that slide at the end and either draw a penalty or feel comfortable that he's not going to get laid out. They didn't have those rules back in the day.

Lol, thanks. So basically a 4 point favorite since we get 3 for playing at home?
