Rewatching the game....can someone tell me what the play was supposed to be on the sack of Mullins in the 2nd quarter at 13:03? Looks like OL are thinking screen yet I can't see who the ball was supposed to go to....McKinnon acts like he's "done" after the fake? Or was it a "F*** it, Mullins just got sacked so I'm going to half a$$ it" type of effort?

My best guess is Tomlinson got beat and Garland is in his own world executing some other play. I think it's supposed to be one of those playaction then hit the quick slant (double Slants being run at the top of the screen).

It looks like they are setting up a swing screen to the bottom

To who, Jet? Jet had no interest in looking back for a pass. Neither did Kittle and Dwelley. Nick carried out the playfake and looked to the double Slants.

I think it's an RPO. He can hand off to Jet or pull it and throw the slant.

Yeah but looking at how Kittle and Garland are running it looks more like blocking. Even Brunskill took off for down field blocking in that direction. Trent Williams hook blocked his guy for a play in that direction. To me it looks like a cluster f**k of confusion

Yeah that makes more sense

That's my best guess. I have no idea why Garland decided not to block the guy in front of him. That blew up the whole play.

Well if Nick gives it to Jet that may have been our best blocked running play tbh

hah true. That would make it another bad read for Nick on the night.

This was similar to the ATL game last year after 2 road game wins. None of the cylinders were working properly. Then we came out firing on all cylinders for the next couple of weeks. Hope that's the case.

I have to disagree. This was a bad loss, on every level. I understand that we have an entire collage of players injured. But so does Philly. They came into Levi, traveling cost-to-cost, and just best us. I don't like how conservative Shanny called the last two minutes of the 1st half.

I'm sorry Shanny, but Mostert is way better than Jet. Shanny HAS GOT to adjust his philosophy on WR's. Aiyuk and Deebo are excellent weapons. But I'm sorry, this offense is in desperate need of a physical outside WR who don't need Shanny's scheme to get him open or need gadget reverses to be a weapon. Teams simply don't respect our WR's and it's hurting us.

This loss infuriated me in so many ways. Looking at the sheer amount of injuries, and how we played yesterday, I have a hard time having much optimism about this season. My feelings last night after the loss was "season over". I'm having a hard time seeing us get back to the PO.

Thinking the same...

That game illustrated how any QB in the league can look good under the right circumstances. Eagles in a soft defense because of that 2 point conversion allowed CJ to move right down the field. It also showed Nick's limitations. If he can't get rid of the ball to the 1st or 2nd read he's dead. He absolutely is a statue back there. Two INTs and a lost fumble were the difference in a game that the Niners should have won.

The O line was manhandled for much of the game. The Eagles have a lot of injuries but their D line is really solid. They also have depth that can keep their guys fresh. I'm not sure Jimmy would have handled that pressure better but he is a little better at rolling away from the rush.

Yeah if the running game is humming, Nick is good to go. he's a system QB and knows the scheme. When something breaks down and he's got to hold onto the ball for any length of time it's a s**t show.

His arm strength is subpar and he just can't extend plays. He's a backup for a reason. OL was trash but Mullens lost us that game.

Can you imagine if we had a QB with top end arm talent, who could actually extend plays (and was smart enough to understand the offense/ read defenses), add in Kyle

Love Jimmy and he's QB1 in SF no doubt. I think we could do better though.

We had a chance at a QB with arm talent but went with Solomon Thomas. Did trade up for beathard tho. Shanny knows his QBs!!

Who? Mitch Tribisky? Because that's who was thought to be considered at that spot. Let's not pretend like people were really clamoring to Draft Mahommes at #2 or 3 overall. I saw several "draft experts" grade him as a 2nd round pick, a couple even said 3rd round. The debate for me at 2/3 was between Jamal Adams, Marshon Lattimore, and Malik Hooker. I finally settled on Adams (better player over true scheme fit), but suggested that the 49ers trade back into the later 1st round for Mahommes - and I got laughed at! Mahommes was my favorite QB in that draft, and even I was surprised when the Chiefs traded up to 10 to get him.

Ironically, I thought Solomon Thomas looked like a 2nd or 3rd round pick...
Philly'a DL made me miss our DL from last year. They just kept coming. Even f**king Genard Avery and Josh Sweat got in on the action.

It's the Revenge Tour Baby!!
If we had Jimmy we win this game and pretty easily. Even with how horrible the oline was. All Mullens had to do was not turn the ball over. Not only did he turn the ball over 3 times but they were decisions that never should be made at this level. It wasn't like the INT's were because the ball got tipped or it went off a WR and into the hand's of a defender, or a play where both the receiver and defender had a shot at the ball and the defender won. And then ofcourse there was the opening series of the game where he missed a wide open guy who didn't have a defender within 25 feet of him. I could have made hat pass. Both teams had a bunch of injuries but the difference is they had their starting QB and we didn't.

I also wonder if the Niners would undefeated right now if Fans were allowed in the stadium. Niners are 0-2 at home.

Injuries don't matter as much when their best healthiest unit (DL) beat up our weakest healthiest unit (OL). Jimmy would have helped a lot with his quicker release though.

We've also seen Jimmy take sacks when he's pressured and Philly brought pressure last night. Yes his release is quick but there still has to be someone open. If they don't get open right away it makes it tough for guys like JG and Nick who aren't mobile.

Jimmy's our guy but damn I watch QBs for other teams extend plays so they can hit an open receiver or run for 1st downs when they look trapped every game I watch. Look how often Wentz, who looked horrible passing, ran for yardage yesterday when it looked like he would be sacked. Our QBs just can't do that.

agreed

quick release is a good attribute, but means nothing if guys aren't getting open ASAP... It's not really some huge special quality in regards to "arm talent" IMO. Yeah I mean over half the league has QBs that can at the very least "protect" themselves by being mobile enough and extend plays. The days of the straight up pocket QB are coming to an end imo. Unless you invest in the best OL in football, which SF has not.

im reffering to screens we ran that didnt work because Mullens didnt get it out quick enough. and Jimmy has one of the fastest releases in the league.

We didn't lose last night because Mullens release wasn't quick enough.
