Should we tank for a top 5 pick?

After tonight, i'm wondering if we just go all Golden State.

With our Oline, we do nothing.
No
We might get lucky and get in with injuries to other teams. Or get bailed out by a cancel season.
I was pissed after we lost week 1, I'll admit it. I waited all offseason to get the bad taste out of my mouth, and to see Jimmy take the leap and silence the doubters. It didn't happen and I was salty—salty enough to start doubting JG.

But tonight's loss? With our MASH crew out there against an Eagles team with high expectations and no wins? It happens. We start getting more guys back in the next few weeks. We fight it out. This is a strong team, with good leadership and well coached.

3 weeks ago I would have said tank. But now I think we fight it out.
I used to want to tank if the season started bad but then my friend said something to me that stuck with me.. Thinking like that is a losers mentality. I'm not calling anyone here that, its just something that stuck with me so fight until the final whistle blows no matter what.
NO, you never tank, not with this much talent on the roster, and so many guys coming back soon.

It's both lines. We are now at 3-4 years ago with the dline. With that oline we won't hit 500
We should, I don't think we win more than 8 games anyway. Brutal division and schedule.

So many guys??????? No Bosa No Ford and a dumpster fire interior oline.7-8 wins. Fluck
What would we do with a top pick? I was thinking regardless of where we pick next year, we need a young quarterback in the room that we should be developing behind Garappolo. Mullens and Beathard will never be the guy. And with Garoppolo, who knows? I guess it will depend on his performance the rest of the season. If he is really going to be the QBoTF for 2021 and beyond.

After seeing Josh Allen today against the Raiders, I'm starting to envy other teams young QB situations .

Yes obviously, we have other holes on the team. Inside OL. Corner. But I am just throwing out the elephant in the room here.
You tank when you are a terrible team. This is not a terrible team there are just a ton of injuries to nearly every good player on the team. Last week, how many of our top players suited up? Maybe two? Williams and Warner.

Uh, let's see. Including guys expected back this season

Offense:

Jimmy
Mostert
Coleman
McKinnon
Wilson
Juice
Deebo
Aiyuk
Bourne
Taylor
Kittle
Dwelley
Reed
Woerner
Richburg
Williams

Defense:

Ford
AA
Hyder
Blair
Taylor
Jones
Street
Givens
Kinlaw
Greenlaw
Kwon
Warner
Sherman
Moseley
Wiliams
Verrett
Ward
Tartt
Moore

That's a lot of quality talent on this roster, to give up after 4 weeks, when the only major injury for the season is Bosa, is ridiculous. Even without Bosa the DL was getting into the backfield, AA has been getting pressures every week, as is Hyder, and Jones. Street and Givens have been getting into the backfield, teams can't run on our DL even without Bosa.

Pass defense was bad because we had f**king Ken Webster, Dontae Johnson, Jamar Taylor, Jason Verrett out there, only really good CB is K'Waun, one of the best Slot CBs in the NFL. If Moesley and Sherman were out there, it would have been a different story, Johnson is lost out there, Webster and Taylor have no business playing on defense. Verrett has been good IMO.

How exactly does one "tank" without completely ruining the morale on a roster with this much talent? Unless there's some more severe injuries to key players in the immediate future, this is a team with too much talent, even with all the current injuries, to contemplate tanking.

No. Tanking is for those in obvious rebuild mode.

And no way would Shanahan tank anyway, that's not the type of coach he is, he wants to win, no matter who's out there playing.
