Restrictions in Santa Clara may force 49ers to practice/play elsewhere (No politics)

AZ, see you soon
I'm curious how this is not a political discussion when the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors are all voted on by the electorate, the Health Officer and Director of Public Health for the County of Santa Clara are appointed by the Board. Meanwhile the Board and the 49ers are duking it out in an ongoing tax-related battle.
I hope this doesn't hurt the 49ers as a desired destination. Team is already dealing with highest taxes out of all teams and highest COL. Now the Santa Clara government is power hungry and imposing harsher restrictions than any other team in the league needs to deal with. Wouldn't shock me if college and pro players are taking notice.....in a bad way

I wonder if the Niners could sue the city and county to pay for the cost of having to play out of state? The city of Santa Clara or someone on the board already doesn't like the team. What's one more issue between them. If Santa Clara doesn't smarten up and realize the money that the stadium brings in then they will end up causing the team to leave someday. That might leave the Bay Area with no football team.

The niners won't leave the bay area but may leave Clara at some point

What makes you think the Niners wouldn't leave the Bay Area? The Raiders did. In fact they left the state. The Rams left LA and went to St. Louis. The Browns left Cleveland for Baltimore. If the situation became so bad in Santa Clara that the team felt they could no longer operate there then they certainly would consider a move. Problem is, there just isn't any place to build a large facility in the Bay Area. They can't go north of SF since most of the fans are south of the bridge. Could you imagine the traffic trying to cross the Golden Gate on game days. If they went south of San Jose then fans in SF and the north bay would complain that the drive is too far. They already do. So where is this great place that they could relocate?

Unfortunately, the best location for a new stadium has been taken. I always wanted to see a new stadium at the old Bay Meadows race track. It would have been an ideal location with Cal Trans right nearby and easy access to El Camino and US 101. It would also have been about halfway between San Jose and SF. I don't know if they ever really considered that spot but they waited too long.

If politics is allowed in this thread then political labels will start being thrown around and that's very cringy for a football subforum, which is what NinerTalk is.

If you'd like to discuss the politics of Covid, there are threads for that here:

Not much chance of getting closer to SF. Where is there any land available at a reasonable price? They went down that road with SF before they moved to Santa Clara. Everything between SF and SJ and SJ and Oakland is built up or will be in the next few years. If they leave SC it will probably be to another state.

This team will get out of SC the first chance they get. The city is micromanaging and over-regulating everything that goes on at that stadium. There's room in SF. The Warriors new Chase Center is proof. Shoot, the team could even build where the old stadium was at Candlestick.

So glad I don't live in California, they can absolutely f**k off with their stupid Covid gestapo tactics. Such liberal horses**t. I live in Missouri with way looser restrictions and there haven't been any spikes in the virus.

You forgot the "e" at the end of your name

If there was room in SF they would be there now. They explored all their options there and none of therm worked out which is why they are in Santa Clara. It's one thing to find room for an indoor arena. A football stadium is much bigger. But it's more than just the space. It has to work out financially as well for both parties involved. They wanted to stay in SF but none of the options they looked at there worked. Same with the Raiders. They wouldn't have gone to Vegas if they could have found a good location and gotten a sound financial deal in the East Bay. The stark reality is that Bay Area real estate is too expensive and it's not getting better.

Only 29 years left on their contract at Levi's. Don't anticipate anything happening before then.

No chance of building on the old Candlestick site. That's already been planned for office space, retail space and homes. They bring in more revenue than a stadium.

It does feel like this is more of a act of spite by SC than a scientifically justified action.

The truth is,...the football seasons should've never began to begin with. And I'm as big a sports fan as anyone here.

Unreasonable requests include asking all the sideline players to wear masks now,...if we want to be honest. It's all for that word we cant mention here.

When it comes to "that" stuff,...the virus doesn't really care which side you are on. From January to now,...we fumbled this year bigtime,...and are now paying the price for it.

I have to agree. It's asinine to think an airborne virus cares about our feelings and boredom.

If we had better access to testing the restrictions may not be necessary, but the general population doesn't.
Couldn't disagree more. I haven't heard evidence that teams playing in SC have spread Covid.

If you can't explain that then the county's restriction is arbitrary and capricious, and not the least restrictive means to ban a constitutionally protected right--freedom of assembly.

Sorry, not buying it.

The idea they could have a season without some sort of bubble was laughable right from the start.
