49ers vs. Santa Clara: Someone is telling a whopper. But who?

Different stories are emerging today about the lockdown in Santa Clara. After yesterday's big win against the Rams, Coach Shanahan told the media that the decision made by Santa Clara County came as a complete surprise and nobody with the 49ers had been informed of the county decision.

"For us to be heading out here yesterday, and the relationship we have with them, for all of our players, coaches, our wives and everyone on that plane to find that out while we're getting on a plane and no one to tell us, it was extremely disappointing," Shanahan said.

Today, however, Santa Clara County officials are voicing a different narrative. They claim "there has been regular communication between the parties."

"The dramatic rise in hospitalizations and the need to take quick action to protect the community moved faster than anyone would have hoped. The 49ers are one of the thousands of organizations impacted by our most recent actions. The County of Santa Clara has been in regular communication with the 49ers both before and after the announcement of the revised mandatory directive affecting all contact sports," according to a county statement.

So? Who's fibbing?
SC. Dude is clearly on a soap box.

I give this thread 3 pages until it deviates from football. Someone please say something political so I can lock it.

911 was an inside job.

You could be right. However, I also think this might be playing a role in the dispute as well.

Granted, Santa Clara County is NOT the City of Santa Clara. But, having worked in local and statewide politics, I also know that the political game makes for strange bedfellows. In other words, these people all know each other. Thanks to Jed York's prolific spending, three politicos found themselves on the outside looking in. This includes low-level staffers like I once was.

One makes political enemies by doing stuff like this. The county decision could be legit. It could also be payback.

JFK's assassination was a hit ordered by J Edgar Hoover.
Has Jed ever told the truth?

Something political.

I personally could care less who is fibbing and who isn't and I don't think it matters really. We have a place to play and we'll have a place to practice. It is what it is and the team has zero control over what the county is going to choose to do.
I mean neither is a real possibility. You can be in contact with the team and giving warnings etc and the team can still be really goddamn surprised when you shut it all down with zero notice. There is a world where both of those are true, and flippant comments from the local government aside they had to know this would be considered a blind side to not give a week or two to figure it out.
The official with his passive-aggressive words is clearly on his soapbox as commented on above. Mentioned in the other thread, but while a sports team shouldn't get preferential treatment, the reality of a pro sports team's operations make it so they should receive more advance notice than other businesses. The official is lost on all that because he simply doesn't care and just wants to wield the incredible power given to him and other public health officials right now. This is not a covid is a hoax post, but the reaction to covid has been completely out of proportion for some time now. Human nature is what it is. You give a few people unprecedented and unaccountable power and they'll keep using it, particularly when the population seems mostly submissive to it all.
Santa Clara sounds like a thorn in the side of the 49ers since the opening of the stadium. They should just up and leave. Time to make up with San Fran.

Where and how?

That's been the biggest issue with building a stadium in San Francisco going back to the 80s.

Candlestick's old site is out
Hunter's Point has the pollution issue.

Also, I think it would be hard to get a public ballot measure for support on a new stadium so close to Levi's being passed.

I'd love to see them play in SF proper, but I just don't know how feasible it would be.

If I was a billionaire football team owner I would just do it out of spite at this point. You are right that it would be pretty difficult to pull off and probably too costly.
I dont think the SC county informed any team.
