Yeah, but then why will the Bengals shell out 21 mil/year for Williams if they can get Villanueva for 18? Or why spend 18 on Villanueva when you can get Jason Peters for 8? It'll drive the market price down. A team like the Jags could sign Jason Peters/Okung, Sammy Watkins, Melvin Ingram and Shaquille Barrett while drafting a top QB. Why spend the money of Williams with a dearth of FA's available and very few teams with space? That's my whole point over all these threads about cap space. The market will tank or players will take pay-cuts.

you really see williams moving to the right side on a rebuilding team at this stage of his career? There's plenty of RT's available too.

Man, cap life was so much easier back in the Baalke days when there was no talent worth re-signing.

As to your point, why spend on Trent Williams if you can get Matt Feiler(steelers starting RT) who's played RT his whole career, has only given up 2 sacks this year and is younger?

That's not the point. The point is LT's.
If we're including RT into it, there's 11 starting tackles available in free agency with only 6 teams with large amounts of space and one of them(pats) has no QB signed(other than their 3rd stringer) and the best guard in the league coming up for free agency as well.

Trevor Lawrence. It's that simple. Trent Williams will be the best tackle available this offseason. Spend the money, which is plenty available for the Jets, to protect Trevor Lawrence with the best so they don't destroy him how they did Sam Darnold. You can move Mekhi Becton to right tackle as well. It's not that complicated lol. Get the best OL to protect your generational QB.

Let's see what happens in the offseason. I hope the 49ers can find a way to keep Trent Williams.

LT and RT are two different positions. Only people who doesn't know football think they are equal and easilly interchangeable.
